BTW this isn't a 2021 thing.

This is our offense. This is what it has always been. In the past we have recruited NFL quarterbacks and runningbacks that covered up how terrible our offense is. The offense hasn't changed.

been telling folks this for a while -

and I would get destroyed for not drinking the "homer aid"

while there was some magic there for a while with the 2 Scotts and Elliot - they had their moments

what magic was ever there ...is most certainly gone

continuity is not always so great in this landscape over extremely long periods of time - every year more and more tape on file, more trends and tendencies to study - continuity feels more important with a mid tier program with middling talent - which is unfortunately where we will end up if we don't start making the competitive decisions - what is impressive is how Venables can still keep people guessing, maybe easier on that side of the ball

Venables is just a good coach.***

I've been complaining for several years that we don't use the middle of the field and don't scheme guys open like other offenses. Most of our passing plays are screens, out routes, fades, etc. Having elite generational QBs like Watson and Lawrence covered up some of the vanilla play calling, but right now, DJ isn't a sure fire day 1 NFL first rounder, and the o-line has regressed to FCS level teams.

I think all of our offensive problems are unfixable this year and we are gonna be an 8-4 team at best and possibly struggle to make a bowl the way things are going.

Dabo is going to need to take a long look in the mirror and make a lot of tough choices this offseason to get it fixed. I don't think we'll be like FSU, but when things fall apart they can fall apart quickly. FSU's down fall was bad o-line and QB recruit misses. Even looking at FSU's decline before Bobby Bowden finally retired, they went from what 10 straight top 5 finishes to 6-6 and losing to Wake at home 30-0 pretty quickly due to bad offensives and insular staff hiring.

Yep, there’s literally nothing I could put forth to argue this. Our offense with Kelly Bryant wasn’t very good. With the guys we have now it’s clear, this is not a scheme that works without an NFL QB. DJ ain’t that unfort. And if that’s what you’re running in college, you are going to have some down years. Cannot consistently rely on first round draft QBs to cover up a problematic offensive playbook. We’re fortunate we got away with it as long as we did.

This feels much like 2014. Cole Stout days.

We have not lost two games in September since 2014.

Sep 25, 2021, 9:38 PM

It appears we are back to the Cole Stoudt days.

Its honestly even worse than that. Its stagnant to the point of regression. We at least used to use the QB on designed runs to keep the defense honest. We dont even deploy that wrinkle now but maybe twice a game, max. There is zero creativity.

Its frankly shocking how many dimwits dont get this fact***

Yes —-There have been glimpses of this in the past against elite defenses , but this is embarrassing
