2018 college football rule change:

2018 Rule Change - Knee Pads Beginning in 2018, players' pants must have knee pads such that the pants and the pads cover the knees. Previously, the rules recommended that the knees be covered, but this was not required. The committee is delaying implementation of the mandate until 2018 because a number of schools have already bought equipment for the year. There is great concern throughout the football world about the tendency for some players to wear "biker's shorts" that only come to within several inches of the knee. This is a safety issue as well as one that does not present a good look for the game.
This will slow down RBs, WRs, and DBs.

They don't technically have to have a pad in there. They can literally put a Kleenex in there and be considered as having a pad in.
I think it's a good rule, that guy from Pitt last year wearing Greenr style running shorts was ridiculous.

Either of the Pitt player or Greenr's hog falling out of his running shorts?

It's turnt into a fashion show of sorts with the short pants

and little arm and leg bands and crap. High school players are not allowed to wear adornments. If they have an arm sleeve on we ask "Is it covering an injury?" and nod our heads yes as we ask. If the arm sleeve has a pad then it's considered legal and we don't ask.
I sweatergoodness I feel more like the fashion police than an official sometimes.

This has been a point of emphasis for years. Problem is all

these dumarse coaches buy "college cut" pants and then get mad when their players get sent out for not having their knees covered. Hopefully this will cut down on that crap since manufacturers won't have a reason to make pants that don't cover the knees anymore.

sent in and them seeing that and I may be sitting at home that week.
It's also a safety issue, or so they say. Never seen a knee pad keep someone from blowing out their ACL.

I agree with this.

the problem is when one ref here and there enforces it and all of the others don't.
Like the ####### crack back rule this year. All it has done so far is increased the amount of times refs have thrown flags for ######## reasons.

Blindside should be called as it always has been. Just specifically defined now.

I think if the rule was slighty amended to make it mandatory

that all players were completely naked, there would be a lot less hitting and tackling, and thus, a drastic reduction in overall injuries.

in the end it won't really make much of a difference once they are use to them and the innovation is perfect.
