According to 247 Sports Clemson's highest ranked recruits of all time - SIX of the top TEN were all on this 2022 team. That is pretty insane.

That might be why fans seem a little frustrated about the last couple of years. You kind of can't help but feel we wasted some of that talent and potential.

We still had a ton of talent, but of the 6 guys mentioned, 2 of them were quarterbacks, 1 was XT who missed most of the season, 1 was Bresee who missed time and was probably never fully himself with everything he was dealing with, and neither of the other 2 played offense which was our biggest issue.

Miss evaluated is more what happened. Coaches have failed at the the WR position. DJ was also a bust. DJ hurt the most.

Did you think DJ was a "bust" when he was breaking records in 2020?

He was a top 5 Heisman candidate coming into 2021.
He mentally fell apart. You can't anticipate that during recruiting evaluations.
WRs looked pretty good when a good QB was in the game, no? WRs are much better than what we've seen, because the QB was unable to consistently get the ball to them. Insert a new QB and viola! WRs catching balls at all levels.
We didn't have a misevaluation issue. We had a situation where the player manning the most important position on the field mentally crapped out. That drives everything, including defense.

the 2020 ND loss on him and keep a straight face. He threw for 430 yards with 2 TDs and no picks.
We lost that game because we ran for 33 yards on 34 carries and because our defense was banged up and got gassed late in the game.

Mental deficiencies apparent during Ga game. Yes, some improvement, but NEVER the feeling he could ever even get us to a Championship, much less win it. Last year, they at least went w run game to minimize ability of DJ to blow the games. Ridiculous how long coaches dragged out the misery this year by not giving Cade (of even Hunter) a chance to improve the O. Love Dabo, want no one else at helm, but can still be disappointed w the needless mistake. Overall, DJ a head scratching bust that our highly paid staff refused to recognize in a timely manner (potentially costing a playoff spot, many millions AND another year of bragging rights). Glad Cade finally FREED!

because they are ignorant and really don't want to be anything else.
2 of those 6 have been plagued by injury since they got to Clemson. Henry and Murph played extremely well. I'm not starting the whole Cade/DJ cryfest again. Some 1 will.. i won't.
in spite of that, even in this so called "frustrating/waisted talent" time

I think it shows just how hard it is to win a championship. You might have the right team but end up with a ton of injuries, have just a few plays go the wrong way that cost you games, or just not get the play you need at QB. I'm not hating on Kelly Bryant, but I often wonder what could've been if either Watson had 1 additional year here or if Lawrence was a year older. We had great talent on offense and an all-time great defense that season which was reflected the following season.

#2, #4, #14, and (so far) #7.

We didnt underachieve when losing the national championship againt LSU. That was basically an NFL-lite team, unstoppable in 2019/20. In 2020/21, we faced a better team as well in Ohio State (w/ much more talent too). We finiahed #4, right about where we belonged.
We played as well as or better than could've been expected considering the elephant in the room the last two years.
What is the most important position on the field? #2 and #4 were led by the #1 NFL draft pick, #14 (10 wins) and #7 (11 wins) would have been better with better performances from that most important position on the field, no?

I ask this seriously and not to bait you. At the beginning of the year, it looked like we would be favored in every game we played, (we were), we had a good home schedule where we played most of the toughest competitors other than ND and maybe FSU, we brought back a ton of talent and a QB that seemed to have improved. I'm guessing like most of us you probably thought the path to the playoffs looked very realistic.
If an Angel descended from Heaven and landed in front of you and told you that your team would have at least 2 losses, lose to your archrival and not make the playoffs, would you really not have been a bit disappointed in that?

I'm disappointed in this year. Double digit favorites preseason over all our opponents. The Defense was built up to rival uga 2021 D. Assumptions were made that we could score like 2021 and still make the playoffs. ND game wasn't even competitive. ND turned out to be weaker than thought. We lost to scar. That alone is enough to be disappointed. Why wouldn't any Clemson fan not be disappointed?
Disappointed and successful season are not the same imo.

It has 0 to do with ignorance. The problem is a difference in perspective. You're older obviously, probably 50+. You've seen a lot worse for Clemson, so even if there is a downward trajectory, you can compare this year to the years with Bowden or West and remember the Orange Bowl (or a 10-3 record) was a pipe dream. But the program has changed and so too have expectations. Younger fans see our peak, and use that as a measuring stick.
Both sides can be right. Clemson is far more successful in the last decade, and even the last two years, than it had ever been in history. But it's also not crazy to think we are/were: (a) recruiting at the top of the nation, (b) paying at the top of the nation for coaches, and (c) playing at the top of the nation and we should continue to perform at the top of the nation. And those younger fans get frustrated because there are clear ###### in our armor that weren't there in 2018, as well as solutions that seem to be obvious both to those fans and to experts, but our coaching staff does not seem to recognize.
But for the rest of your post. That's a bit disingenuous of stats.
The 2019 team was excellent, but our defense took a big step back, with Simmons having to be everywhere at once. We were absolutely exposed by LSU. But we were #3 in talent, and we finished #2 in the rankings. A great year.
The 2020 team was #4 in talent, we finished #4 in the rankings. So by pure rankings we finished right at expectations. And I think we can say that season was okay. But we suffered our worst post-season loss in 10 years and it was clear the gap between Alabama, Ohio State, and us was widening. Outside of splitting with Ohio State, our best win was against #22 Miami. It was also the last year of a bunch of our stars and we came into the season as title favorites, so while you can't say it was a disaster, it's debatable whether it was fine or a mild disappointment.
We came into the season as again contenders for the title. We were the #4 team in talent that year. Last year's team had a defense almost on par with 2018. Our offense was the worst in 30 years. We had one ranked win and finished the season #14. And there were 6 wins decided by 1 score that could have very easily gone the other way were it not for Venables. We didn't win the ACC for the first time in 7 years. There's no way you can call last year anything but a bitter disappointment.
This year, many Clemson fans hoped we'd return our elite defense, and then with Cade Klubnik, the offense would turn the corner. We started the year in the top 4. But of course, we played DJ and the defense took a huge step back for whatever reason. Despite a much easier schedule, we had a series of very close wins before getting completely blown out by 8-4 Notre Dame and also losing to our rival for the first time in 8 years. We did win the ACC again thanks to Cade (and Wiggins), but I think most would say, given our preseason ranking and our being the fifth most talented team, that this year was a disappointment too.
We're still having records 110 teams in the FBS would kill for. But only 5 years ago, we had records 128 teams in the FBS would kill for. That's what people mean when they say they're frustrated. Also, Henry has been absolutely phenomenal and is a true argument for Dabo's system of growing up and developing. Murphy has not played extremely well this year.
