DJ made the Cut @ -4 . . . today when you check the Leaderboard, he is listed as MDF and will not play today . . .
No DJ didn’t withdraw . . . He is not injured . . . MDF is a weird rule . . . too many folks were tied at the Cut Line to permit scheduling of Tee Times . . .
Here’s the PGA wording:
“The MDF rule specifies that if more than 78 players qualify for the final two rounds, the cut score will be lowered to the next available score. These golfers receive an MDF note beside their name on the tournament’s official scoring. They each earn a portion of the tournament’s purse but do not continue play. The rule has been met with some criticism from the media and professionals, who have argued that a player who makes the cut should be able to continue.“
MDF stands for “Made Cut, Didn’t Finish” . . . Hate it for DJ and the others!
We’ll only have Jonathan and Doc to follow today . . . and Cantlay in MfO’s case . . .

I’m hoping that JByrd will have a very good round and make it into the top ten. That would get him into the field next week. He’s starting to build some momentum by Monday qualifying and getting some consecutive starts. He shot 63 to get into this tournament.

Yeah, kinda figured that ugly 3 putt on 17 for D.J. would be the difference. Oh well, at least he'll pick up a few bucks.
Proud of JB - good round yesterday to put himself in a position to make a top 10 run.

Well, I thought I knew a thing or two about tournament golf, but this is a new one on me. Thank you for edumacatin' me up on that. I did check the tee times this morning on ESPN website and saw "finished" by DJ and thought, What the heck? Did he tee of at 3 a.m.? I guess ESPN doesn't have that "MDF" code in the system. Oh, well. Go Doc and J-Byrd!

MDFs used to show up quite a bit. However, they essentially did away with it when they moved the cut line from 70 to 65. Now, it only shows up in rare situations like with this Pebble Beach Pro-Am where the cut line for this tournament is 60 due to having to accommodate the top pro-am teams on Sunday. Since the normal cut line on the tour is 65, if you finish between 61 and 65 in this tournament, they give you a MDF so that you earn some points and cash for the effort, but you don't play on Sunday.

Been awhile since I've seen that rule used. Curious if they could schedule enough guys at or near the cut play in 3-soms to fit the field in other tournaments, but there may be things I'm overlooking. Would like to see Spieth or Day win, but Day just dropped a shot and is six back. Hope JB can finish strong. Saw a replay of Spieth's hazardous shot at the edge of a cliff. Would've been tragic if he had fallen forward.

Lots of golf left but way to gut out a beautiful -67 to finish -13. Currently in a t7 but let's pull hard that it stays a top 10. So proud of you JB.
I was pumping fists like we won the natty. He just missed rolling in an Eagle on 18. Nice payday and some good points too... Plus he'd be in next week!
Doc just eagled too. Earn them bucks and points big fella.

so I’ll only talk about Jonathan, who has just completed a stellar-5 round vaulting him up the Leaderboard 13 spot where he currently rests at -13 for the Tournament and sitting in a T-8th Place!!!

At a minimum, he's guaranteed another season on the KFT. However, he now has a great shot at a Top 25 season and a PGA TOUR card.

No. You have to win three tournaments in one season on the KFT before you earn an automatic PGA TOUR card. However, finishing in the Top 25 on the regular season on the KFT earns a card. So, Carson has a great shot at that.
