Portal or Not to Portal…..

The new reality of a high school student athlete? committing to a school for four years and receiving a college degree is for the most part gone, I’m afraid. Where has the loyalty gone? I fear the almighty $ has taken over again.
I don’t know if I’m old enough to be labeled “old school” but college sports especially football has forever changed. Saddening in my opinion.
I graduated HS in ‘71, college ‘75 and ‘93 so you do the math. Any of you older TNetters feel the same?
I miss the way it was…….

Dabo doesn't strike me as someone that "rushes in" as he is not a fool. From some comments he has made I get the sense he is taking a wait-and-see approach.
What of the Freshman that worked their tail off in the classroom and weight room who - ffwd two seasons - now has their opportunity stuffed by someone who didn't grind for 3 years alongside him?
Will it cause discord? Will it increase the likelihood of transfers "from your team"?
The NIL and Transfer Portal happening at the same time is what's stinking up the joint. One by itself is bearable and could be managed through; I believe.
The combination - is turning CFB into something that's just a resemblance of collegiate Amateur football!
It's all ready and has been all about the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Before NIL most of the kids going to Alabama weren't going there because Bama's academics are so great? Or because of the way the azaleas are manicured and taken care of on their picturesque campus! It was a money chase of the NFL as Niky Satan has a great reputation for putting players in the pros!
It's certainly not his "warm personality" and likelihood of recruiting another 5-star player the very next year at your position that wins so many kids to the University of Alabama!
Same with Ohio State! All these kids from the South going up there to play in the dang cold! For what? Because their stadium is nicknamed after something a horse walks on? Because their mascot is a worthless nut? The weather? The academics? Those kids go to the school that has the rep of paving the way to the NFL!
Which begs the question about Georgia! For another time; because besides AJ Green and Matthew Stafford who else are they working within the league? I am sure it's plenty; I seriously just don't keep up with the 1980 last time champs enough to know.
Eventually, Dabo will use it in my opinion! But, the kid will have to be the "right kid" and the situation will have to be right for both parties!

Wando if you graduated hs in 71 then you are old school. Hopefully Clemson will continue to give scholarships to high school kids because coaches believe they can coach em up. Then throw in one or two portal kids when you can

was complacent about the billions of dollars they banking off NIL, without compensating those whose NIL was used to create the windfall, because they were indentured students. Once the facade was ripped off the NCAA and its obviously unconstitutional system of monopolistic indentured athletics, the game was over.
Had they created a system more equitable than “100% of the money is mine. You are just a kid”, perhaps the result would have been different.
But who knows what’s left when all the chaff shakes out? Not me. One possibility is certainly a non-college route to the NFL. But I, a year your junior ??, have no idea. Go Tiguhs!!

I graduated HS in 1969.In fact I had to repeat the 2nd grade when my family moved or I would have graduated in 1968.And no I was not a dummy ,or stupid like Forrest Gump. I just attended a church supported schools and couldn't transfer that class courses. .Didn't go to college.
But even I am smart enough to know that if something is available to use, and by using it it benefits your program, then use it.

That is the ultimate question for Clemson. Dabo’s model has been to recruit character first and develop the player. And he recruits players until they graduate. I believe he will stick to that very successful model but use the portal only when the situation dictates.

I know how you feel. I use to look forward to watching college football all day of Saturday’s with daughter. But now I watch Clemson the maybe a couple of other games.
It seems like their are more college players in the TP than there are players in MLB free agency. The TP will be the create a wider gap between the haves and have nots.
Like I have said before I hope I am completely way off base and I am totally wrong about where college athletics is headed.
It sad that the NCAA and some AD’s and coaches have allowed the players the and recruit’s to have so much control over college football. The NCAA has also let BIG money become the number 1 force through ESPN and other media sources to determine the direction college football. It’s no longer about Education , many of the kids are no longer student athlete’s it’s all about the $$$$$$$$. The NCAA is no longer a legitimate force in college athletics.
The question is will the NCAA exist in 5 years or will college football have a super conference the SEC. Then once Power 5 conferences will become midsize conferences like the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12 will complete for BG’s while CFP teams will come from the SEC super conference. I said 5 years ago college football was headed in a direction most fans would not like.
I am grateful for the best 10 years of Clemson football that Dabo and his staff have Clemson fan’s.
