Penn St causes an awful lot of problems for the committee...

If Penn St wins the B1G.... they have to be put in the playoff .. imo... but what if Wash wins PAC 12? How can the committee put in OSU over either of those teams... Penn St owns head to head over OSU and is a conf champ... Wash is 1 loss conf champ...
The committee has tried to remain objective by favoring conf champ and head to head.. vs more subjective measures.. eye test....
This scenario will really back them in the corner... now don't get me wrong I think OSU is better than the other two, but it would send a pretty bad message if they chose OSU.... think about if we were put in the same situation as Penn St and Wash.... we would be screaming bloody murder...

I don't see it as much as a big deal.

Based on your scenario, it'll be Alabama, Clemson, Washington and Penn State in the playoffs.
Another way to look at this is to look from outside in. Which teams have the most reason to complain if left out?
The reason we have the playoffs in the first place is to eliminate these complains.
Ohio State and Louisville, even with 11-1 record, the committee and the college football nation can just say that they don't get in because they don't win its conference championship. It's that simple. For Ohio State, no chance they'll leave Penn State out, especially when Penn State beat Ohio State head-to-head and Penn State wins Big Ten.
Louisville doesn't have that good of a resume even at 11-1. They have a good loss, but it doesn't win the championship and it struggled against a lot of teams.
Every conference champion among Power 5 deserves to be in the playoffs, unless a conference really messes up like having a 3-loss or 4-loss team winning the conference.

Another factor....non-conference wins....

Although conference championship and head to head are huge, the win-loss record also matters. If Ohio St. is one of only a few 1 loss teams, and Penn St. is carrying 2 losses, that is different than if Penn St. had 1 loss as well. Ohio State's win at Oklahoma looms large at this point, and while conference championships are critical, a big non-conference win gives you major points with the playoff committee. Right now, the top 4 have that in common. Bama has a win over # 13 USC Ohio St. has a win over # 9 Oklahoma Michigan has a win over # 10 Colorado Clemson has a win over # 15 Auburn
This is also why Wisconsin is ahead of Penn State, they have a strong non-conference win over # 16 LSU
Meanwhile, Louisville has beaten Marshall and Washington has beaten Rutgers. Louisville can slightly improve its non conference resume with Houston and Kentucky, but the top teams have better wins. Penn St lacks a good win outside of the Ohio St win. Michigan beat them 49-10 earlier this season. It seems like they are over-rated, yet the teams behind them haven't exactly shown that they have a better resume.

I'm only worried about Clemson winning.

I'm not so sure that Michigan is done just because their starting QB is out.
O'Korn is a capable QB. Remember him at Houston before Herman became their coach? I do.

I would love to see this pan out, just to see what the Committee does. If Wisc and PSU win out, OSU beats Michigan, then regardless of whether WISC or PSU wins the B1G, it's a mess.
