OT : I just found out the Mechanic I have been using for years

Might be a crook, or might not be as smart as he thinks.
A couple weeks ago my truck started NOT heating the cab when in park or idling.
He said he was sure it was the heater coil, which is an expensive fix.
I told him I would get back to him.
So I do some internet research and find if I park on a incline, start the truck with radiator cap off.
This could fix the problem because air was in my radiator.
Well after doing this and about 5 mins of my time everything is good to go.
Moral of this story is that the internet doesn't lie??

I replaced one in my 82 Malibu in about 30 mins.. and I didn't know what the heck I was doing.

82 is the key. You could sit beside those engines and work on them. Now you can't get to the ####### oil cap half the time. My wife has an 09 malibu and I have to take the front bumper completely off to change one headlight bulb.

But I did learn a valuable lesson on newer cars when I got a 10 acadia.
Left the light on and battery fired. Open the hood and there is no battery. . Just the posts.
Battery is under the wheel well or trunk or front seat ..I don't even know.

I got in a wreck last year and the hose got damaged while at the body shop.
That's exactly how it happened I'm sure.

Since a radiator is under pressure and atmos pressure is 14.7psi,your
radiator would not allow air in unless you have an opening somewhere.

A radiator cap can allow air into the system. A empty reserve tank will also allow air to enter the system. It's also possible it was trapped there when someone changed a hose or thermostat.
When antifreeze/water gets hot it reaches a vapor point that's related to the concentration of antifreeze in the system. More antifreeze yields a higher boiling/vapor point. Antifreeze not only prevents freezing it raises the boiling point which is critical if you're running an air conditioner.

Seriously, one of two things can be wrong with the heater coil.
1. It has a hole in it. If this is the case, you will smell antifreeze inside your cab and when it gets real bad, you will have a puddle in your passenger floorboard. If this is the case, the heater will still heat properly.
2. The heater core is obstructed with corrosion. This will cause the problem you mention, but If this is the case, you have much more problems than your heater core. Your radiator will also be clogged. Your water jackets in your engine will be clogged and obstructed.

The motor controller for the air re-circulation flapper door could be malfunction.If it is vacuum control there could be a vacuum leak not allowing the door to open or close at low RPM. This is why it doesn't work at idle or in park. At high rpm there is enough vacuum to overcome the leak and allow the door to open or close.

You discovered burping your cooling system was the solution to not having cabin heat and half the guys here are telling you it's probably not that difficult to replace your heater coil.
I'm just wondering if you took the opportunity to add a little antifreeze to the system to displace the air and insure it doesn't happen again.
Does you reservoir have a bottom hose which connects with at the bottom of your radiator?

If it has a lower hose you'll need to keep a eye on the coolant level in the reservoir.

The internet can fix anything but the wrong name for a car or truck part...Heater CORE, not Coil. Water circulates through the heater core from the radiator after drawing heat from the engine. When one is leaking sometimes the core can be fixed if it is a solder joint that has given out. On some cars the repair involves most of the dash being removed to access it, on others its an easier fix. Had an old S-10 pickup (pre YouTube,Internet model)that the heater core started leaking. Pulled most of the dash to get to it. Hateful job.
