I think part of the popularity of softball is because it's

one of the last pure sports in college athletics. I'm sure there's some NIL stuff in there for some of the ladies, but for the most part, only a very, very small percentage will leave college to play any kind of softball afterwards. Most will head on into the work force and then family life. Some will get into coaching. But as a result, these ladies are playing for their teammates and the love of the game. You know, the way college football used to be. Kids having fun while competing at the highest level. I think it's no coincidence that softball seems to be growing while football and basketball are dealing with the portal and NIL and all that mess. It's sport. Not business. Not yet, anyway.

Yep. And the postgame celebration yesterday showed that. These girls are playing for pride and for the fun of it and as someone else says …. “The fun is in the winning”. Right now they are having a lot of fun. Go Tigers!

It is also a quick game. 7 innings instead of 9. Much less

delay with pitches as far as batter calling time/time between pitcher pitches. One unique thing that I find interesting is its not guaranteed to throw someone out at first. In baseball, it's all but guaranteed unless there is an error. I know its due alot to the length of the baseline, but if a girl runs hard, she can beat out the throw. And I will say bad softball is terrible, but when you get to this stage of very competitive softball it is great. And I agree, it is much less diva which is interesting isn't it?

Nah I don't give a sheep whether or not they have NIL deals

They do have them BTW. Valerie has a few that I've heard about, and it's been reported that Montana Fouts at Bama has the most money in NIL than anyone at the school; football and basketball included. I love to watch it because of the joy that they show and how much they love each other. They're not too cool to let everyone see it. It's not about NIL it's about pro sports. They're playing because they love it not because they're trying to get to the NFL or NBA. NIL didn't create the me first football player; the Clowneys and Manziels of the sport were always there.

team has just never gotten on an extended run this year like in some years past, when the wins just started piling up and players would start feeding off each others good play.
Sadly, (Close your Eyes, Judge) this baseball season has been a lot like last basketball season. About the time you think we are getting on a roll, we fell on our face and lost games, or whole series, to teams we have historically done well against.
Which makes sweeping the Coots this year seem even more out of character. But, they are really having a down time now, as well.
I would love to see us get on a roll and win the ACC Tournament. But, if past play is any indication of future results, more likely we bow out meekly this time around.

I don't think a true lady would accept an NIL as money is vulgar to a woman of refinement, gentle manners and superior social position.

NIL really has very little to do with sports except big time football and at some schools basketball. Softball is popular at Clemson because it is new, they are winners and guys with daughters who play are into it.

While your premise has some merit, there are now 19 sports at Clemson (some have yet to start intercollegiate competition, and I think there are only 2 (football and basketball) where there are serious post-collegiate, professional opportunities. Yes, there are professional possibilities in baseball, golf, tennis, T and F, softball, etc., but the %ages pale in comparison to the opps in football and basketball - and, frankly, many of these graduates are just interested in grad or professional school, their internships, their first job, the military, entrepreneurship, or public service.
So that leaves 17 sports where students probably play for the love of the game, for the excitement of competition, and for their brothers and sisters in sport.
Seems like the majority of our athletes still have their head screwed on straight.

It’s because they win. We would support and be enthusiastic about any of our teams if they won like the softball team does, especially basketball and baseball. Just shows that all we need to do is win and any sport will get the full support and enthusiasm of the Clemson family. Should be a big lesson to the basketball program than constantly complains about fan support. Just win baby!

So you think the basketball needs to win more? Great idea
