On the GOR...what happens if a new member comes in?

Jul 12, 2022, 12:13 PM

Maybe this isn't exactly relevant to ND, but what happens if the ACC tries to add some other school?

Are they automatically roped into this GOR deal?

Another question I have is if a team leaves the ACC do they have to pay (1) both an exit fee & GOR stay with the ACC through 2036 or (2) just the exit fee (to get out of conference and GOR)?

I have assumed (1) both exit fee & GOR stay with ACC, but I've read different article with some saying (1) and some saying (2).

Thanks for any answers.

separate exit fee. It kind of is the exit fee.

According to David Hale, it just means the new school must sign the identical GOR, but it does nothing to change the GOR burden the existing schools are under.

Correct. Yes, it keeps current schools chained in place but is a huge deterrent to new schools to join, unless it would be a bottom feeder like UConn or USF who would sign anything just for a chance to be “P5”. I doubt even West Virginia would agree even if they wanted to be in the ACC.

I guess they would have to arrange something so attractive..

...that ESPN would be motivated to negotiate.

Who's that, outside of ND?

I doubt it would happen, couldn't all the acc schools (or a majority) vote to
nullify the GOR. They voted to implement it why can't they vote to void it?

I think 8 schools would have to leave. So you would need that many schools that could go somewhere else.
