Zaire Patterson nugget
May 26, 2020, 12:11 PM

Talked to his head coach, DeRon Middleton, again and he gave me a few nuggets about the young man. First of all, Clemson was his dream school. The coach said when he first met Zaire four years ago that he said Clemson was where he wanted to go. On their first visit to campus, he said Zaire's eyes said it all. The kid has a 3.8 GPA and will either finish second or third in his class. Also, on defense, when they yell "MONEY" he knows it's time to go get the QB.

Bojangles isnt as good as it used to be. Chickfila is a completely different type of food, and there are hardly any Popeyes around here. Need to bring back Mrs Winners!

Kid looks like another Isaiah Simmons

The way he lines up in a 2 point stance I think gives him versatility outside of DE. Would we play him in a similar OLB hybrid role to Simmons? Or would he be strictly DE?

How much he grows and how his growth impacts his speed will determine his position

Hmm. Very Interesting Thought.

You may be on the right track except for one thing: Patterson is 6'6 and likely won't be 215 lbs when he reports. My guess is he will grow into his body and be 230+ lbs by Sep 4th next year. Also, tall linebackers aren't really a "thing" right now.
On the other hand, if his athleticism is exceptional, they can teach him to cover TEs. That would give him a pretty wicked dual role along with being an edge rusher.
I don't expect much from him as a freshman. If he's a hard worker, we might have a piece of gold that just needs patient refinement.

247 now has his weight at 230 lbs so I will correct myself:
This young man is a speed/edge rusher pure and simple. I'm fine with that.
For pass coverage, all he will do is drop back when he reads a screen pass.

I am thinking Vic Beasley is a better comparison. Vic used to line up in a three point stance and nobody could stop the speed rush.

...definitely a better fit for Tigers than the yard birds.
I would love to see another Tiger on the field that could play like Simmons.
