Notre Dame half-way in the ACC is good for the ACC.

Mar 13, 2013, 2:42 PM

Does Notre Dame's half-@ss commitment to the ACC help Notre Dame more than it helps the ACC? Duh... of course it does.

But does that automatically mean it is bad or even negligible from the ACC's perspective? Not even close.

First of all, the immediate reason why Notre Dame is good for the ACC is that it will increase TV money. New York is a big place. For whatever reason, Notre Dame is bigger in the NYC market than Syracuse, Rutgers, Maryland and UCONN combined. Not only that, but by having Notre Dame in the bowl lineup, they will only improve our bowl negotiating power and perhaps we can add a better bowl.

But the biggest reason may be the long-term implications. It looks like the college football world may eventually move towards just a few superconferences. The Irish AD already said, though the plan is to remain independent, if something changed dramatically then they would join the ACC in football too.

Well... with all the concern that the ACC may be falling apart and that Clemson may get left high and dry (Our only possible option would be the Big 12) ACC AD's and Prez's know that Notre Dame said it would fully join the ACC if conference affiliation eventually became a requirement to play in the new super-conference league.

So? So this could very easily hold all the schools together and the conference could not only survive but seriously compete... and make a ton of money too. IF the move to superconference-only league does happen, the ACC can't hold on to itself with just FSU, Clemson and Tobacco Road leading the way. We NEED a Notre Dame to be involved in our image if the superconference crap hits the fan. That would give Clemson the best long-term conference security.

I agree

Mar 13, 2013, 3:17 PM

The over-analysis of this is ridiculous.

Clemson gets to play Notre Dame every 3 years for free. FACT.

If Clemson loses to Notre Dame it doesn't effect their chances at the ACC title. FACT.

How is this bad? Oh, because Notre Dame is "using" the ACC? Get real and who cares.

That's all that should really matter to anybody on this board.

I am sure millions more yearly for both parties makes it a little more worth it.

It's all nice until ND takes a bowl spot from us

Mar 14, 2013, 12:01 PM

Clemson sits real nice in the pecking order in bowl selections with the way we support football. But now that ND will have access to our bowl lineup, we will get passed over from time to time. So instead of a Chi-fil-A bowl, we end up in the Russell Athletic Bowl.

If you are not in the running fror a BCS type game

Mar 14, 2013, 12:10 PM

take the team that they feel will make them the most money.

I hope that it is Clemson.
I hope that Clemson does everything they can do to become the next Bama.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard

Mar 14, 2013, 12:35 PM

So Notre Dame and Bama should play in the National Title game every year because it makes the most sense economically? Why even play the games?

I don't think the bowls matter much, so I don't care if ND takes a spot from us, but the ACC instituted the "1-win" policy so that you can't jump a team that is 2 wins better than you in conference. There has to be some merit or why even play?

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I was not speaking of the MNC. The two best teams should

Mar 14, 2013, 12:51 PM

play in that game.

I am okay with the Peach Bowl taking who ever makes to most money.
