Brad finds a job with a solid mid-American program that will be happy to have him.
It’s not often an AD lays out expectations so definitively to start a 13th season, but in this case we know exactly what to expect.
I like being able to just cheer on our Tigers and let the rest take care of itself.

It certainly doesn't mention "making a splash."

And making a splash =
“Clemson Athletics has high expectations for all twenty-one of our varsity sports programs, and we do not - and will not -shy away from our pursuit of the highest levels of excellence and championships.“

That does not mention making a splash or making the dance. If you are capable, take a step back and look at the bigger picture. The results this year are significantly better than expected or our history. We have a solid core of returning players and one solid commit. A coaching change at this point would most likely result in mass transfers and starting over. So it it worth destroying the program unless we go big meaning hiring a top coach? Can we afford to hire a top coach? If we have funds is it basketball the best investment?
BTW the letter was more of general direction than a specific line in the sand for CBB. Certainly a bad season would have forced his hand but a good season like we are seeing will certainly give CBB more time.

Neff has clearly taken a page from Dabo and saved his most pointed criticism for private settings, but this is clear cut.
If Clemson Men’s Basketball doesn’t make the NCAA tournament this year, Brad Brownell will no longer be the head coach.

Did you copy and paste this from the argument to keep Tommy Bowden?

If Brad misses the tournament and doesn't make the top 40 for the 11th year out of 13 seasons, while stealing the 38th highest salary in America, then he's toast.
Gonna miss ya!

Because the league is inarguably complete trash. There are two teams in the top 20. TWO! And on cue we are crumbling down the stretch, at this point a bubble team to even make the tournament at all. I just fail to see any reason, here 13 years in, to continue down this path. The ardent BB supporters are frankly one of the most baffling phenomenon I have ever witnessed in Clemson sports.

“Dear Clemson family:
As we approach the beginning of "March Madness" and the most exciting part of the collegiate basketball season, I want to take a moment and share with you my views on basketball at Clemson.
First and foremost, thank you for your support all season long. There were some memorable moments in Littlejohn Coliseum, and we are grateful for all you do to create an incredible atmosphere. We should all be proud of the effort, commitment and resilience of our student-athletes - they never wavered In the face of challenges throughout the season.
Clemson Athletics has high expectations for all twenty-one of our varsity sports programs, and we do not - and will not -shy away from our pursuit of the highest levels of excellence and championships.
This year’s Men’s Basketball season did not meet our expectations nor those of Head Coach Brad Brownell and student-athletes. There were a number of reasons for the results, but we realize this is a bottom-line game.
In the days following the ACC Tournament, Coach Brownell and I met several times to discuss the state of the program, potential off-season changes and plans for next year that would return us to the NCAA Tournament.”

CBB was provided the funds necessary to obtain the quality assistants for which he has yearned/needed. Anyone disputing that the “line in the sand” is making the tournament is not being honest with themselves.
Personally, I like this team (strongest in 5 years?). I would like to see the team finish strong (14+ conference wins), and the program gain some momentum, which would hopefully carry over into recruiting.

Personally, I’m pulling for Coach Brownell and the team.
Hated seeing them come up short the last two games.
There is very little margin for error from here on out.

Kind of where I am. I don't light him up in my posts, but I thought he should've been let go after season 7. That marked the end of a 3 year run of 17, 17, and 16 wins. I thought that 7 years was enough of a sample size to accurately gauge what you have. D Rad decided to bring him back, and we get to the Sweet 16. At that point, you have to give him a new contract...and we continue on.
