Way too complicated for me to understand all of it. Partly because I'm not smart enough. Partly because the guy is a lawyer and he is parsing his words to fit his best interest. But, I found it interesting.
Note: The link is to a discussion between an FSU internet journalist and a lawyer who has set up a company to deal with NIL. While the discussion talks some about FSU it is primarily a generic discussion about NIL. It is not a promo for FSU by any means.
I heard something about his organization several months ago, but paid little attention.
He's a lawyer. He lives in Miami.
That's two strikes against him. (Sarcasm emoticon posted here.)
He was clearly parsing his words. I suspect in the coming months, years, we will hear more.
When I first heard of collectives, here was my understanding of how they would work:
They would essentially serve as agents for the athlete. They would go out into the community and contact a car dealership, for example, and say, "We've got some athletes who would be willing to come to your dealership and sign autographs and pose for pictures. How much would you be willing to pay?"
But, they quickly turned into pay for play guys.
The problem now, it seems, is that there is supposed to be no contact between the school and the collective. That has to change.
Coach, how can we help you? ... Do you want money for recruits, for guys transferring into the university through the portal, or to current players to keep them from transferring out or heading to NFL?... Which recruits do you REALLY want? ... How much do you want us to pay them without destroying the locker room atmosphere? ... Quincy QB is eligible for the NFL draft. How much do you want us to pay him to convince him to stay another year?... Etc.
