Some of you may remember a coach in the 60's at Lower Richland High School in Columbia by the name of Mooney Player. He recruited players as well. Don't know if he helped them financially but I knew a QB he brought to that school from a town about 50 miles away.

Not slamming him. He was a great coach. I just happened to be friends with that QB. It still goes on though. They recruit every year at a private school where I live.

While he was a great coach, I know for a fact he recruited players for football and wrestling. I played for Berkeley but my last year of Bantam before JV, we had a DE on our team that was a stud. Berkeley coaches were chomping for him to come to HS and then last minute he and his family moved to Sville. I'm not going to throw out his name because he would be known by several. But no doubt Summerville recruited players under McKissick but a lot of the players were from rural schools as he knew his Rivals like Berkeley would create major waves if they came into their areas too often.
