Factoids: Guns aren't going away, ever! America is broken:

people seem to take great pride in hating each other. Broken families (many without fathers and family values) abound, like never before.
The toxic atmosphere in America today, no surprise, foments radical thinking and mental illness. Guess what? There will always be an abundance of sicko, mentally ill people out there, forever! We must assume a percentage of them will attempt to shoot up a school!
The problem is that America has failed to adapt to the crisis of massacres like Uvalde.
We MUST secure every school in America with locks and dedicated armed guards trained to shoot to kill. Arming teachers should be encouraged.

I note that my facts, logic and common sense seem to disturb you? You don't do reality? Pity. However, I will continue your re-education as I post my learned opinions and facts. Deal with it. Your hate tells me I nailed it. LOL at your desperation! Made my day!

Irony-the expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect.

In our rural SC community just a few weeks ago some thugs in a truck passed a teenage girl and put 3 bullet holes in her car. She’s a good kid from a good family. It was nothing other than an act of evil. Thankfully she was not hit. That is not a gun problem!! That is an evil problem.

So your assumption is that they would have done something similar without the gun.
Many people do not share this assumption.

My assumption is that evil is going to do evil things. I certainly wished those thugs did not have a gun. We just need to be very careful where all of this gun control push goes. I’ve never committed a crime and can’t even begin to imagine that I ever will. So, I will absolutely not be giving up my right to be armed and defend myself. I’m sure we can do more but we need to first understand that the root cause of violence is not the gun.

Yeah I get it.
Seems obvious that we can all agree that guns and psychopaths are not a good mix. The difficulty is that we obviously have too many of both.

More guns are being bought than anytime in history. Fact!
Why is that? What are your thoughts? Let's discuss.

here's my thought on guns

they are great for killing things, so it is pretty easy to understand why we would want them. We obviously like to kill things, especially things that we are afraid might kill us. Many people buy guns for protection. They want to defend themselves and their families. It's a natural human survival instinct.
The problem with this line of reasoning is that it never ends. It is a continuous cycle of paranoia and violence. Dune had it right, fear is the mind killer.
Instead of reasoning our way out of this cycle, we just double down on paranoia and fear. Every time. I guarantee you that by the end of the week, there will be a record number of guns sold. And that is exactly what the gun folks want.
Istead of more guns and less violence, we have more guns and more violence. Why is that Miura?

Father in law has a house full of guns for hunting. They will never kill anyone. It always goes back to the person and we always find out they were extremely messed up and everyone knew it but said nothing or ignored them.

I can appreciate the perspective

my father had a rifle for protection, because he was a newspaper man who received threats against our family on several occasions. I believe he would have killed anyone who he thought was a danger to us. Unfortunately, he was also an alcoholic with a temper, so the reality of a gun in his hands kind of freaked my mom out.
There is actually a lot of data on gun sales after mass shootings. I truly think we are in a vicious pattern.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7369030/ Effect of mass shootings on gun sales—A 20-year perspective Granular data on gun sales has been historically difficult to obtain. In 2016, California (CA) made monthly data from 1996 to 2015 publically available. Control charts are a method to analyze how a process changes over time in response to nonroutine events. ...

Doesn’t that kinda emphasize the point though that the problem was him and not the gun? It’s just not an easy solution without just abandoning 2A and that isn’t likely to happen any time soon.

It emphasizes the point that humans are not infallible and are often irrational and capable of doing dangerous things at any given time. When combined with weapons, the danger becomes many multiples more consequential.

That is true but unfortunately the Constitution doesn’t just apply to the people who have it all together. That’s where it becomes the slippery slope of determining who has rights and who doesn’t and the potential for abuse.

You mention the Constitution, and it brings up an interesting thought experiment.
Suppose we could bring the framers through time to May 24, 2022 in Ulvade, TX and sat them down to explain what happened yesterday at the school. Suppose we showed them the kind of weapons used, the calibre, the explosive damage done to human tissue, and then the parents who had to be swabbed for their DNA because their children were basically liquified by the power of these weapons to the point they were not even identifiable. We could also show them all the statistics from years and years of these mass shootings. We could show them mental health data. All of it.
And let's suppose our framers were then given the full evolution of legal judgements involving the second amendment over the last 245 years, ending with the Heller decision and then Texas laws allowing folks to open carry.
I really wonder if they would agree with you that it's a slippery slope to "regulate" the people's right to bear arms. I wonder if they wouldn't look at us and say we have collectively lost our #### minds.

We need to change the saying from "a good guy with a gun" to "a dozen good men with guns". There was armed security at Parkland, Buffalo, and apparently Evalde. Of course it was pistols vs assault rifle and body armor, which isn't a fair fight.

not a bad idea, the ones that live will grow up to be responsible gun owners, we need more hurdles in life to strengthen the herd.
