earlier in life. I knew of "The Weight" and "The Night they Drove Ole Dixie Down." Neither of those really do it for me and have been known to drive me insane.
I've recently discover songs such as "Don't Do It," "Ophelia," and "Up on Cripple Creek," that I really enjoy. I'm sure I'm missing tons of other stuff.

Was driving from Vermont to NJ one year and someone put in The Band. I only made it about 5 songs before I had to change it so I wouldn't crash the car.

Perfect pitch doesn't sound as pleasing to the ear. That's why the telecaster sounds so good. But it's about soul, brotha. Why do American Idol stars usually flop a big D?

It's not my list, but I'm glad to see CSNY and The Dead on there. Rolling Stones for sure. I hate most of Bob Dylan's actual songs but love it when other people cover them. The Beatles, I never really got the love-fest for them honestly, but I do like Paul. U2? Sunday Bloody Sunday will always get horribly screamed out and butchered by me in the car, but I don't love U2.

listing The Band twice leads me to believe you have a Band obsession. Nothing wrong with that..... they were excellent musicians and could play many styles.
but calling them a rock AND roll band is just wrong. The closest they get is country rock category.
Notables left off list.
Pink Floyd The Doors Queen Aerosmith The Eagles (The Band twice and they're left off?) Whatever derivative of Eric Clapton you prefer. and never forget Black Sabbath
Still zombie Keith Richards embodies the brain of rock and or roll.

For pure R&R, that's about it ... of course, there are many sub-genres ... ie Punk (Pistols), New Wave, Grunge ... but for pure R&R ... yes, early Ramones ... its really "just" R&R
