and not where it's really important..into our family relations, our morals, ethics, learning more, being broad-minded, being more forgiving & loving, etc.
Dabo touched on it a bit with his NIL comment..
that GOD is the "Captain & Head Coach" of us and of our fate.

It's been said for generations regarding conversations among folks - stay away from politics and religion. Some folks have difficulty acknowledging that "their politics and religion" is not necessarily aligned with their associates, or in this case their college alumni base.

Because we live in the western world where individualism and grit were a part of the American Dream. We live in a society that devalues family time in exchange for overtime.

One could write a dissertation on this you know...
As for sports, I dont get it. It if it is a family event to go to or watch a game then this makes some sense, but fact is, we make too big a deal out of it. Funny thing is, as to Clemson and Carolina, those schools have fans who are rabid, but never took a class at either, never had a close family member take a class at either. And then it becomes divisive too - some of those people will fight you for insulting "their" team. Crazy. And dont even get me started on the topic of money spent on this stuff...
Politics and Religion. This is tough because everyone has politics and faith - even those who claim to have none. So one's faith (and politics if you are in a nation where there is much in the way of democratic involvement) deals with how one believes the universe is ordered. If you are Christian you believe with all your heart you have good news to share - and want to. Other beliefs arent so interested in sharing, but when we engage with people with strongly differing beliefs, it becomes a challenge to keep talking as their view of the universe and how it is ordered differs from your own - it can seem the other opinions are really rather hostile. I have long heard you dont talk about politics or religion as well (might as well include sports), but at some point you run out of stories about the weather and children. That's a tough one, but we would do well to take a more courteous course when we do speak about such things.
Spending time becoming broad minded. Thats pretty loaded. Seems many today would use this phrase to suggest that those with a worldview disregard their own in order to permit others to impose theirs. An educated person should, however, be prepared to listen to those with differing views while always seeking greater understanding of things as an element of seeking a fuller understanding of truth.
