Do we really need a slide?
Dec 16, 2016, 2:10 PM

How many more recruits are we going to get by having a slide in the new facility? At (assuming) 600+ for that slide, will we really get our money's worth out of it?
Would we have been better off buying a swing set for the new facility? Maybe a clubhouse with a captain's wheel?
What was Dabo thinking with this?

Dabo said in interview at the beginning of construction of the new practice facility that was one of his ideas. He thought it would be fun. Dont know why everyone is making it a big deal. PS your on the wrong forum coot.

Did we "need" an Oculus? No ...

Do we "need" a slide?
Of course not!
Not from a strictly functional standpoint it's a needless expenditure ... but what it produces is people nationwide talking about Clemson football.
These "needless" things make people talk us up, and they subsequently attract the attention of recruits.
From a functional standpoint, they're hard to justify.
From a "recognition" standpoint, they create a solid value.
Do we "need" recognition?

the coaches offices & meeting rooms are upstairs 2nd floor, a very restricted area. The slide empties out into the hallway near the weight room, a more public/player area. It replaces a stairwell that would normally be there. HOWEVER, since the 2nd floor is a private area, a stairwell would have required a door and card reading system or some locking mechanism to prevent just anybody from accessing that area. The slide saves the cost of all that - thousands of dollars.

I don't think the slide is for the recruit(s)

I believe it is for the younger siblings and/or campers that come to Clemson and there is "nothing" for them to do.
This "horrible/terrible" idea of a slide will keep the younger family members occupied while the adults talk. Perhaps if they are lucky, the young ones will get to play with the future Tigers similar in personality to that of a Christian Wilkins (or other power ranger).
Just my guess, personally I would have gone with a fireman pole.

Trevor didn't mind the slide before committing. As a matter of fact, he committed right after it became a big deal. We're keeping the slide.

It's for kids, have you ever been to any event and not seen the coaches kids and families with them? Did you watch the playoff show at clemson, there were more kids than players running around the football cafeteria.
