Louisville still > Maryland.

Nov 18, 2016, 9:54 AM

How many of y'all remember Maryland? Did you forget them already? If so, good for you. They're very forgettable. When they surprised everyone in the ACC by announcing their intention to bail, we all said, "Whatever. Just leave the cash in the lockbox. Don't let the door hit you in the donkey on the way out."

I still feel that way. Maryland was/is trash (certainly in their fanbase), and they are getting everything they deserved. A return to total irrelevance.

I've never been to a game at Louisville, but got good reports from friends and family who did go. Of course, everyone's nice to you when you beat them. The fans at Clemson the last couple of times around have been just fine, very pleasant. I tell you, I don't blame them for being frustrated. It's frustrating being right there on the cusp and then having the rug yanked out from under you. The game against Clemson was going to be ridiculously frustrating for one team or the other, and I'm certainly glad it's them.

As for last night, I saw this coming. Really, I did. I picked Houston and stacked points on them in our little family and friends football pool. I knew that Houston was...ok, let me stop right there. I did pick Houston, that part wasn't a lie. The rest - well let's just say I thought there was a small chance Louisville would lose. Just like everyone else. But if you're a Louisville fan, riding with new money, that was a punch below the belt. Surely they are wandering around in a stupor today, because the rigged/excuse train just derailed. There's nothing left to cling to but Wake Forest.

It would have been good for the conference had Louisville won. The only reason that matters to me is that it would, by extension, have been good for Clemson ($$$, if nothing else). There's no way that we get in if we don't win out. If we win out, there's no way Louisville gets in ahead of us, even with a win over Houston. Simple enough.

So why pull against Louisville? Their fans (of the non-raging-internet variety) seem nice enough. They're an upgrade over Maryland, to put it mildly. They're bringing another level of depth to the conference, and making things better for Clemson. Why, indeed?

Petrino, that's why. Petrino, and what he's allowed his players to become: whiny little punks. This was so much sweeter for all of the crap that their players were posting on the net this week. So much sweeter for all of the whining that was done after the Clemson game, and after every poll this year. "We're getting screwed!" proclaimed Louisville's players. "It's rigged!"

You know what makes Watson better than Jackson? Character. Maturity. Class. Did you see any of those traits on the Louisville sideline last night?

Frustration is natural. It's how you handle it that defines who you are.

We have a coach and staff that demands class and maturity. We recruit young men of character. We counsel those that make mistakes, and then we hold them to a standard. We are the best in the nation at recruiting, playing, winning (and occasionally losing) with class. Boys and girls, we hit the jackpot, and these are indeed the Golden Years of Clemson Football.

I'll still take Louisville and most of their fans over Maryland and most of theirs. Without question. I just hope for their sake they get a chance to experience what we have. Because right now, they have seen success come and go but they're still in a pact with the devil.

Kinda reminds me of a certain poultry factory not so long ago.

Beat Wake.

And really up until this year I thought our interactions with the UL fan base were over all positive.

"I just hope for their sake they get a chance to experience what we have."

NOPE...Because that would be at our expense.
