Let's give Coach Brownell some credit...

So far this year, he has done an excellent job coaching and getting his team to play fundamentally sound basketball. If we continue to play like we have been, not only will we make the tournament we will have a decent seeding.

I truly believe this will be Coach BB's best coaching year yet. Great job by the coaches and the team.

Men at 25 play football. Men at 40 play tennis. Men at 60 play golf. Have you noticed as men get older their balls get smaller.

Brad is and always has been a good coach

I've wondered if he'd run his course here, but so far this year, the team has exceeded expectations by a good measure. 16 league games to go, and most will be tough. Alot can happen, but this team plays as well together as any he's had since the Sweet 16 year, where they just complimented each other well, even after the Grantham injury.

The league being where it is sets up for a heck of a couple of months.

Win and make the 64 team tournament or lose your job is a great motivator! Happy for the players that they are playing well.

I agree... With the exception of a couple of hickups, the team has played great.
Go Tigers!!! Keep it going!!!

For my money its Chase Hunter's improvement. He has become a big quick steady playmaker and can run. As a result we now get some easy baskets of the fast break type. I had not seen that out of him until this year. He showed improvement last year, but not as a PG. He battles on both ends of the court.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yep he has really come into form

But Hunter Tyson also looks like a completely different human being as well

I will give him credit for putting together what looks to be

a pretty good roster this year. When I actually see him out cerebral another coach, I'll give credit for that part.

you obviously dont watch much...

Jan 5, 2023, 9:05 AM

if you havent already seen that.

We run a ton of sets and he seems to have done a good job in getting the old 5-6 minute scoring droughts out of our system. Our players execute because they are well coach and put in the right positions for success.

Every team goes through those droughts virtually every game. It's not a Clemson thing or a BB thing. It's something that is used to bash BB by people with an agenda.

Lol exactly. College basketball is a game of runs. If people actually watched college basketball, they would know that.

How many droughts did VT go on last night? I'm told by some very smart posters on tnet that mike young is an exceptional coach. If he's an exceptional coach, then why did his team go on scoring droughts? Was it brownell's exceptional defensive play calling? Is he not an exceptional coach? Or do all teams simply go on scoring droughts? Did these complaining losers watch the Duke nc state game last night? What about the Miami GT game?

Last night was pretty good

On the road at a decent VT. Young has had his number. That’s a game we lose pretty much every other year under him.

Hope we can keep it going.

Knows his Xs and Os. Those who know the game will tell you. Those losers who do not know the game will keeping hoping he gets fired.

Or is that what Jstone D329 does?
I can’t keep it straight. And sometimes you can’t either.

It’s amazing what some people can do when their job depends on it. Excellent should be a standard, not something that has to be forced on you

Do you really think BB is coaching any differently? Do you think that somehow a "sense of urgency" is being imparted upon the players to win? If it's that easy, don't you think every coach would just say, "Go win."

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Indeed.***

I honestly thought we should have gone in a different direction this year

He has done a great job developing talent. Specifically Hunter Tyson and PJ Hall have gotten better even through injuries. I also like the progress of younger players like sheffelin even though he still frustrates me launching those threes.

Also Godfrey is a big time recruit. I think that kid could play for pretty much any team out there.

Finally he seems to be using the portal better and I am liking the chemistry that seems to be developing on this team. (I thought David Collins was awful last year and an cancer on the team chemistry, and an argument against the portal)

I might be wrong, but I don’t see a late season slide again with this group.

Seriously though, Hunter Tyson is having a great year so far.

How do you keep Gamecocks out of your yard?
• Put up goal posts
What does a Gamecock grad call a Clemson Tiger grad in 2 years?
• Boss

Re: Let's give Coach Brownell some credit...

Jan 5, 2023, 1:24 PM

He still needs to learn to call a timeout before an opposing team goes on a run of 9 straight points while we had a lead of nine points ourselves in the last eight minutes of a game - did not hurt us last night but has cost us a number of losses over the past several years....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ahhhhhh - I’ll credit the players.

1

Jan 5, 2023, 1:36 PM

I hear you - butttttttttt

Is it because of Brad or simply the stars aligning and some good players making it happen?
If it were simply Brad -
Where has been this knowledge and coaching ability been for the past 12 years?
Did he buy a book on basketball this past summer?
Did someone pay him more money so that he would now try harder?

I don’t think Brad is a bad coach. I just think sometimes stars align.
I like this team, but giving credit to Brad might be a stretch. If he is really a good coach, where has this talent been for the past 12 years?

The ACC is historically bad. Louisville, unc, Duke, Syracuse, Notre dame, fsu - all well below their normal level.

I’ll give the credit to the players. They are getting it done.
