KB2 & TL16 - GTech in ATL - KB2’s last game as CLEM QB…

Sep 26, 2021, 10:36 PM

This game has been just seared into my brain since I watched it. KB2 & TL16 were alternating series. On every KB2 series, the offense never scored and was either 3-and-out or 5-and out. on every TL16 series, I think he took the team down the field and scored. Maybe, I’m wrong here, but that is what it seemed like.

In the end, Clemson beat the Jackets handily that day in Atlanta, and I remember saying out loud to myself, “That is the LAST game that Kelly Bryant will ever play QB for the Clemson Tigers.”

Boy, did that ever come true.

I know TL16 was a once-in-a-generation type of college QB. However, that alternating series between KB2 & TL16 with the same players, against the same opponent defense, gave me the CLEAREST, most STARK contrast in QB leadership, mental control & alertness, physical skills, and game & personnel awareness that I think I had ever seen. I was just left in SHOCK and AMAZED at what I had just witnessed.

Anyone with even a modicum of football knowledge would have been able to make the coaching call that CDS make the following week that led to KB2 leaving. There was no debate. It was over for KB2.

Now, fast forward to 2021.

Clearly, KB2 is a different QB than DJ5.

We couldn’t keep KB2 in the pocket, without him pulling the ball and running for his life. DJ5 we’ve got the exact opposite. We can’t get him to run out of the pocket, and he stays in the pocket to a fault.

Now, I have the same feelings watching BOTH KB2 & DJ5…both QBs were/are not able to run a high octane offense. Yes, I get the loss of Rogers, Powell, and Etienne, but there is receiving talent on this team. Right now, there is not a QB on the field that can be the catalyst to pull this together.

The issue is that there is NOT a TL16 on the bench to recreate that same scenario that occurred back in that GT game in Atlanta. I think we are all in agreement on this. BUT, considering where things are at, it seems that CDS NEEDS to get some QUANTITATIVE DATA for evalutation and ALTERNATE TP7 with DJ5 for a few series next week with BC.

Let’s just see what happens under CONTROLLED conditions that simulate what happened at the GT game in Atlanta.

Maybe, TP7 turns in a BUST when he is in the game. I don’t know.

At the very LEAST, DJ5 will be on notice that he is under active, immediate, direct, and on-display evaluation for his performance, “mano a mano”, with the Clemson nation looking on, as well as his sponsors.

Maybe we will see a DIFFERENT, non-NIL driven, naturally-talented QB emerge from the depths, similar to the glimpses we saw last year.

I agree with ya.
However, we know that TP is not TL. Remember when KB2 was stinking it up with a bad ankle against SYR? We had Hunter Johnson, a 5 star recruit sitting on the bench and Dabo never put him in. I couldn’t understand why. Then we saw HJ when he got to start at Northwestern and he was horrible. Maybe Dabo has TP in that same camp?

We do not have a second option! Plain and simple!

If Tony was as brilliant as Dabo claims he is, he would be able to scheme plays that DJ could be successful playing. DW4, and TL16 were both really good dual threat QB's, and DJ really isn't. DJ can barely out run 6'4", 6'5" 320 pound D Lineman, and LBs can easily run him down if he gets past the LOS!!!

As I've already said many times, Jeff Scott, DW4, and TL16 covered up Tony's inability as an OC. They are all gone, and we now see what we had with two NFL QB's making everything look to be OK, and what we still have without them!!!

I saw him deliver that laser to Renfrow in the front corner of the endzone....and I was like "" How did he even get that ball in there "" ? And the rest was history.

Maybe just maybe Dabo is haunted by the dissatisfaction and disappointment he saw on Kelly Bryant's face when he had to tell him that he was beat out. I think maybe that bothered Dabo more than he would ever tell.

By the same logic Dabo is slooooow to recognize obvious

needed change when it involves disappointing someone he likes.

Everyone knew Watson was the real deal, and yet it took 3 games alternating with Stoudt for him to be named the starter. We went 1-2 in those three games, losing to UGA and FSU. With Watson starting, we win one of those, if not both. It was there for all to see but he had to prove it painfully and beyond a shadow of a doubt to himself.
