Big sign on the door, masks required to enter. With cops there enforcing the rule as soon as you walk in. Then they make you empty your pockets, and walk through a metal detector, and wave a wand over you.
Clerks are behind bulletproof glass.
Now, juxtapose that with your kids in school......

I'll agree that it seems apples and oranges. Seemed you found more humor in the fact that the law passed and people would be upset, but if not, carry on.

Good time to invest in some abortion clinics across the border in Mexico.

Should men have the right to refuse being father? Women can decide not to be mothers by going and getting an abortion, but if that women decides to give birth the man is obligated to pay child support, he had no say in the decision to carry the baby to term or to terminate.

I completely agree. It's just a counter argument.
Men have no legal say on wether a women does or doesn't get an abortion, yet are legally required to provide child support.

The TX law IMO is draconian by basically setting up private citizens as enforcers of the law via the threat of multiple law suits. Based on that, I suspect the law will be struck down.
I wonder how many of the TX state lawmakers would actually force their wives or daughters to carry and give birth to a baby conceived as a consequence of rape? Not many I would bet.
What will be more interesting will be the SCOTUS decision on the state of Mississippi's law banning abortions after week 15. Fetal viability is around 24 weeks. States already can restrict abortions after this point under Roe v Wade.
I have no way of knowing, but suspect the Supreme Court will give more latitude to the states to make their own laws regarding abortion, a process that is already occurring.
I am pro life with exceptions, but this is such an emotional issue and complicated one. I would not want to have to make a ruling as a SCOTUS member. I see both sides and respect both sides. Fortunately, the number of abortions has fallen according to the Guttmacher Institute from a peak of 29.3 abortions per 1000 women in the early 80's to 13.5 per 1000 in 2017.
Personally, I would be in favor of "free" birth control for men and women although that is altogether another can of worms.

You're a lot like me in not trusting either party and not trusting authoritarianism in any form.
Do you agree with Texas's law here?
I personally don't like the concept of abortion as birth control (for a whole list of reasons), but I'm also very wary of the consequences of heavy-handed government punishment for it.
We know what happens when the government tries to ban things...

They made it so that it’s not the government enforcing it but private citizens through lawsuits.
Could be smart, but seems like this is going to open it up to a lot of suits that simply get struck down over and over, costing more money. The SCOTUS probably dodged this one because they'll wait (if they have to) for an actual one of these lawsuits to land on their desk.

segregation is unconstitutional, I'm not sure how this ultimately can be upheld. The majority was very clear that they did not rule on the constitutionality of the law, only held that it could only be brought before them when it's actually enforced.

And I think that is really what the TX law is all about…just trying to get one over on the other side. It’s what we have become…and judging by your LOL below, it would seem you are OK with this sort of gamesmanship…and that’s all this is. Texas Pubs don’t give a rats ### about the unborn, babies, kids or anyone else outside of their tent, they just want to institute their own form of fascism under the guise of religion…The Taliban would be proud.
Abortion has existed forever and will continue to exist…those with the means will simply take a ‘vacation’ and come back a few grams lighter. The poor will continue to be the ones who are forced to suffer for their mistakes by having unwanted kids or by dying from back alley procedures.
With this said, I know many have honestly held positions on abortion…and I respect that. I respect more those that realize the government has no place in this.

The government has a place at such point there is a life to protect. I guess reasonable people can agree there is probably some point during a pregnancy where a fetus becomes viable and a case could be made that a life has been terminated…but it’s certainly not at six weeks.

Our current system has a government monopoly on justice

and I think the murder of a baby is the same as the murder of an adult so I don't have a problem with the law.
In a libertarian world, there wouldn't be a law against murder of any type, but there would be consequences for people who murder. I don't have time to get into all of the various mechanisms but the main point here is that murder is wrong so it should be punished one way or another.

For a state whose Pols have gone ape crazy over

individual freedoms and rights over masking and vaccinations, passing an anti-abortion law that assails the individual rights of women like this is the pinnacle of hypocrisy. Until a child in the womb is capable of surviving on its own, without the host, outside of the womb, there just isn't a rationale for this without invoking the intervention of religion into such a law, which flies in the face of A-1.
Personally, I believe abortion is a horrible fate for all parties involved and would hope that people facing this decision would pursue an alternative. And know this as fact - those thumping a Bible over this and crying Sin can also be the very first people to push for this route for a daughter or mistress when the roulette wheel dials up their number. As others have noted on here today, those with resources will find a way around this. Those without will produce babies without.
Creating a Soviet style snitch apparatus to administer this, where private individuals get all in other private individuals' business, encouraged and incentivized even - I just don't know how to process that. It is as anti-conservative, from a political stance, as you can get.

You think abortion is "horrible" and wish people would seek an alternative and in the next sentence attack religious people, who it would appear share your opinion on the issue. I suspect you have very little in the way of "facts" that "those thumping a Bible," which is I guess your terminology for Christians, are the first to seek abortions.

Not attacking Christians, bud. But I do have a problem with the loud ones (thumpers and criers) who don't practice what they preach. I could have worded that better though, for sure. Not "some of the first to" probably, but more like "act the same as", when the rubber meets the road. Some first hand experience there that I would rather not delve into.
I prefer to not see us legislate matters of faith due to liberties we established early on to protect rights to worship or not worship as one sees fit. When we force behaviors on people based on interpretations of faith, we chip away at those freedoms.

I am against legislation being enacted heavily reliant on faith-based beliefs, as I believe this Texas law to be. It would be interesting to see a line-up of all the yea votes for this particular piece of legislation and see how they align in that regard. Wanna toss out an over/under there?
Preserving the rights of all to worship as they please and lead their lives according to their personal beliefs is what it's all about. When any religion grabs an outsized position in legislation it is a threat to all, including itself.
As a society we invest far too much energy on this subject. Like drugs it is going to happen whether legal or not. We should decide on a viability date, and just accept it and all move on. It's a divide and conquer political tool used by some of the worst and drains our country of our mental resources and ingenuity in a lose/lose issue.

“Until a child in the womb is capable of surviving on its own, without the host, outside of the womb, there just isn't a rationale for this”
I’d add, until a person is capable of supporting themselves without the host “taxpayers”, on their own two feet, there isn’t rationale for not aborting them at any age.

Historically speaking, how would one have been forced to give birth to a child? Does this not happen by default, save getting pushed down a flight of stairs or sitting in a really hot Jacuzzi for a really long time once you are a few weeks late? I guess that can kind of be viewed as a little whoopsie, IDK, should you ever find yourself a few weeks late.
anyway, I do not get the forced to give birth part, that is a natural process.
