I have never seen anyone on this site explain what Swofford ever did to Clemson. From everything I have ever seen or read about Swofford, he is was, and is, a very respected man.

the extra year of probation the ACC gave Clemson.
These are the same people who think that Ford did no wrong, justified our cheating then because “everyone did it,” and still harbor hatred for Max Lennon and Ken Hatfield to this day.
You know the type. They probably wear orange overalls.

In the end.
And McClellan was in the wrong. Could Danny have handled the situation better? Yes. However, the admin was in the wrong.
They were hell bent to get rid of Danny because he became so powerful of a figure and they couldn’t stand that. Call it jealousy or insecurity or a power play, but as I said at the time, firing Danny would put the program out into the wilderness for 20 years or more. And I was right unfortunately. I was there at the time marched to the President’s house one evening with thousands to make our disapproval with what was happening be known and to support Danny.
Turns out, Danny was not the bad guy in all that crap.
Swofford oversaw the ACC during all this amd he took every opportunity to stick it to Clemson. He didn’t like that Clemson was becoming the face of the ACC. It took away from UNC’s glory (he is a UNC alum). His bias was towards the Tobacco Road schools and basketball. That is why he went after the basketball dominant Big East schools to expand instead of for more football dominant schools.
Never liked Swofford. His disdain for Clemson all those years was so obvious. That snooty UNC, look down your nose at Clemson SOB!

expansion, the ACC brought in football dominant schools in Miami, VT, and BC along with basketball dominant schools in Syracuse and then Louisville.
Name any other football dominant schools they could have realistically gone after.
You may be right about Danny, however.

Danny was exonerated? When/how did that happen? Genuinely curious. I still love Danny but don’t remember any exoneration.
I was also there when he was fired. What I remember is that Danny thought he was bigger than the school. The school showed him otherwise. The word at the time was that if we had kept Danny then we would go on probation again. Either way we were screwed.
Was interesting that one of the main fights was over Danny insisting on a new football dorm…just a couple years later they were outlawed.

He voted "Yes".
If I have to explain that, you are too young to understand it.

I was in the crowd that marched to Lennon's Presidential house the night after Danny was fired so I expect I am much older that you are. Living life in an everyone is against us world is a sad way to live. I will always cherish the football program that Pell started and Danny built and the basketball program that Tates Locke was building but we got caught and suffered for it. I am far to old and intelligent to live in the past. Be happy that Clemson moved on and moved upward.

ND outside of football is just another school for most folks in the South. If realignment starts again I would hope the door is shown to the Irish. Their ego is too big to stomach w/o competing in football.
