With only 900 and some odd yards from scrimmage last year rank as a Rivals 4 star?I'm talking about Doty by the way.

He'll be a 3 star tomorrow. A S.Carolina commit "just means less"

The SEC media moguls are embarrassed over USuC and try hard to compensate, ergo, he might just be the greatest athlete to ever don a chicken outfit with a helmet. They'll soon be asking, "Bentley, WHO???"

Another interesting career backup QB was Matt Cassel at USC. He played 4 years at USC and only completed 20 passes and never started a game. He threw 0 TDs. He started 81 games in the NFL though. He made the Probowl. He threw over 100 TD's. Odd

Sometimes stats are odd. Vince Carter averaged 14 points per game his senior year of HS. Maybe there is more to the story? I agree it is odd though.

SEC Bias. But I’m reality rankings are always based on potential.
Looks like Doty could be successful at multiple positions at the college level. I honestly hadn’t followed him because I assumed he would go to Clemson. But he has a very quick first step, especially for a white guy.

That's racist but would expect nothing less from a coot like you.

The guy is going to be a pretty good QB

He, by pretty much all accounts, was going to be our next choice at QB if DJ didn’t work out (and we still have to worry about pro baseball with DJ). He still has 2 years of HS left but he has plus athleticism and time to develop as a passer.
If it didn’t look like we were going to land DJ, there’s a good chance Doty would be committing to us instead of the Coots.

I've seen him at camps, scrimmages, etc

He is a freakish athlete and by all accounts (friends in the area) an incredibly hard worker. Looked good at slot and could play DB if asked.
I was impressed by his passing ability as a 9th grader (scrimmages) and last year at a couple camps.
My guess is that the rankings are following the offers and camp scuttlebutt.

Yep, he was a 3 star going into the camp circuit and was upgraded to a 4 star. He's the starting QB now after two years as a backup QB and WR. I would think that he would be listed as an athlete instead of a QB at this point in his career but I guess they are projecting him as just a QB in college.

Why would he be considered a career backup after his sophomore year? Connor Shaw played WR until his Jr year while his brother played QB, I wouldn't consider him a career backup.

If 100% of his high school career has been as a back up qb

Then he could be considered as a career back up qb.

Two years behind a Jr/Sr QB is not a career. Now if he spent 4 years (or close to that) then I would consider him a career backup. Scarnacchia is what I would consider a college career backup that hopefully we won't have to rely on.

With all the camps these days, kids can get offers before truly playing. Dorian Thompson-Robinson was a UCLA commit and Elite 11 QB last year before ever starting a game. He backed up Tate Martell in high school
