Anyone on here ever coached Qbs or played QB?

TB is obviously having some mechanical issues IMO on some throws. The throws where he leads the WR too far or too long are on him. The high overthrows is fundamental but I can't figure out if it's his back leg bend/placement or his release point is too high. The ball he threw to Nuk on the TD was text book perfect, in stride, outside shoulder to where only Nuk could catch it! That was beautiful.

Exactly...we need not "freak" out after a "bad" game.

Tajh has us spoiled because he's so good. He was off a bit Saturday, but our D was playing the best it has all season after the first two series. That stop on 4 & 1 was HUGE! Let's not forget, VT hasn't played to it's potential, but they have talent and are well coached. Especially on defense. I'm sure they were pumped for the game so our Tigers proved to be more pumped and ready.
GO TIGERS!!!!

I've been impressed with the majority of TB's work/throws

this year. He was off a bit Saturday. Could have been a number of things. A lot of times he throws the ball where only our great WR(s) have a chance to make the catch. He's running more this year which fits Morris' system and maybe he makes a few bad throws after running/scrammbling (especially if it's a decent run). All QB's will do that. We just notice it with Tajh because he's a pretty accurate passer. Just my opinion.

The past 2 games he's been overthrowing routine passes. DS even stated it was fundamental/mechanics. I was just curious if any coaches could chime in. I'm very happy with my Tigers. Not bashing TB at all.

It is a matter of avoiding turnovers while trying to create plays. It is a conscious adjustment from the downward slide he took last year when he started throwing INTs. I think now we are going to start seeing more check downs and screens in order to avoid incomplete passes when initial receivers are covered.

During GaTech game, was sitting with the other Reunion players. Two former starting QB's (Jimmy Bell & Jim Parker)said he was not stepping into his throws causing them to sail. For what it's worth...

I've noticed him throwing off his back foot. Most of that is when he's being hurried/rushed to make a throw. He'll do that rolling out of the pocket as well, but I think his arm is strong enough and he's a pretty could passer most of the time on the run.

I think he's played well. Was certainly off Saturday and I understand where you're coming from on some of his throws. I'll also add sometimes those throws are coming from when he's rushed as well. Give Tajh time and give the WR's time to run their routes and Tajh is one of the best.

I saw him the last two games during the Tiger walk and he looked pretty pumped up almost to much. Not sure if that has anything to do with the fact that he did overthrow his first few passed for each game. he may just need to calm down some.

When you have someone who knows the position, knows the plays, knows his reads, knows the routes and has as good an understanding of his game as Tajh does, most over throws are caused by the moment. Those are usually quickly corrected after a series or two.
In English, too hyped up, throws go high. Too nervous, throws go low.
Both of these assume good mechanics which he clearly demonstrates he has.
I dont think I would worry too much about Tajh's production. Or his results. Or his record. Or his leadership skills.
When all the parts of this offense link up, it is going to be a thing of beauty. Might as well happen Thursday!!

Thanks for the insight. I've often wondered if he was just too jacked sometimes and put a little mustard on some of his throws. John Elway and Brett Favre come to mind with some of their bullets that were incomplete when they just needed more touch less zip. I wondered if TB was thrwoing off his back foot or if his knee bend was too much causing the arm to get too high and conversely sail it from time to time. I'm certainly glad to have TB! Go Tigers!!

For some reason TB never gets into the rythm of the game till he runs with the ball a few times, might be a byproduct of being over excited or trying to hard

The Chad normally calls a few runs/screens to get Tajh ready

I was surprised by our lack of screen game yesterday. With the way they were coming for Tajh from the opening snap I thought we'd go for a few more WR screens.

For me - I think Boyd either has a little "stage fright" or just totally pumped with adrenalin in some of his games - especially at home in front of large crowds. When he focuses more, the throws start to look great. This is probably why they never see the problem in practice, but game day is different. Lots of players do that.
Notice his first good throw was on the dead run to his left and he made a perfect throw to Brown(?). He wasn't able to think about it, so it came out clean. Just watch him. He's prone to do that. I used to say that he only plays his best when he's down 18+ points, but he's better this year.
I would recommend he do something that makes him focus more, and stop thinking about all the external things. Maybe make him move more when passing. Dunno. Easier said than done.
