we have lost some elements that created advantage.
1. Pace - not just hurry-up all the time but dictating the pace to opposing defenses, catching them wrong footed, and not allowing adjustment. We need to enhance our speed and vary it. This is why Elliot can't find his "rhythm".
2. Quarterback as a Running Threat - you need to force the defense to account for the QB in order to "level" the inherent advantage the defense has. It also enables the next element...
3. Optionality - we lost our RPO. We need to punish a defense for its choices by attacking it at a vulnerable spot. Maybe we are afraid to run DJ, who knows, he is just as likely to get hurt taking all those sacks.
4. Simplicity - we were simple in our approach to RPOs. When I hear the coaches talk now, and see the number of communication issues / confusion between the QB and WRs, offensive line, etc. I am concerned we are overthinking it. Many of the "bad" passes and the pick 6 had to do with the QB / WR not reading / executing the various option routes correctly.
5. Space - we have abandoned huge chunks of the field. You need to force the 11 defenders to cover it all which they can't. Last night at times, we had no routes across the middle of the field which were vacated by blitzing LBs, we have two receivers run routes to the same areas of the field, and we seem afraid to create situations that isolate a receiver in 1:1 matchup in the boundary.

What happened in the past doesn't matter;
Different team make up, coaching changes( mostly opponent),schedules, injuries, Covid protocol, strength of schedule , etc. change from season to season.

Agreed. Players matter. However, you also have to develop them and put them in a place to succeed. Our overall talent is now better than when Watson / Gallman was here. Back then, our offensive philosophy allowed us to compete against better talent by creating advantages. We have moved away from that for whatever reason.

I sometimes wonder if we lost some offensive creativity after that last drive the first time we beat Alabama. Ever since than, our staff fell in love with big bodied receivers and the 50/50 ball. The next year it was we’re going to put Overton in the slot and kill guys with our size, and it just has been vanilla since. We went from putting Sagan defenses on their heels to just trying to out talent everyone. That works against the ACC, but not against a Georgia or OSU
