We need a monster 2023 recruiting class

Jan 15, 2022, 5:16 PM

Going to be key to sustaining success…

Last couple of offers we will have to beat out Buffalo, Charleston Southern and the likes to secure a full class.
I wish nothing best for the kids we are offering , they are getting an amazing opportunity and hope they are the next Renfrows, Simmons, etc
but you don’t build a national championship caliber team on legacy recruits and hoping 1,2 and 3 *’s turn out to be amazing.
I know some of this class is due to coaching changes, but I can’t help but think how this happens to bama every year, and even Georgia this year and they still have secured top classes.

Really hope 2023 is good to us in the recruiting world.

Should be a huge class

Jan 15, 2022, 5:18 PM

We know going in we should sign 25+ and won’t get caught off guard. This class is loaded along the lines where we need the help and has elite WRs as well. Could be a HR class and these signees will most likely win a national championship here.

I hope it’s a 25+ class of 4 and 5*

Should be a deep class.

unless there are a bunch of guys leaving with eligibility on

Jan 15, 2022, 7:04 PM [ in reply to Should be a huge class ]

the table, we will not be 25+ next year. The vast majority of our roster has multiple years left.

Re: unless there are a bunch of guys leaving with eligibility on

Jan 15, 2022, 8:03 PM

Well, coming back after next year would be:

QB-4-DJU, Helms, Wiles, Cade
RB-3-Pace, Ship, Mafah
WR-8-Spector, EJ, Collinsx2,Taylor, Stellato, Randall, Williams
TE-3- Ennis, Briningstool, Sapp
OL-14- Parks, Trot, Mayes, Johnson, Rayburn, Tucker, Howard, Williams, Tate, Linth, Penny, Leigh, Sadler, Miller

DE-4- Williams, Murphy, Denhoff, Patterson
DT-6- Bresee, Reuben, Ruke, Tre, Capehart, Page
LB-7-Bentley, Maguire, Allen, Swint, Simpson, Trot, Woodaz
CB-5- Davis, Greene, Wiggins, Luke’s, Pride
S-5- Venables, Mukuba, Mickens, Carter, covil
ST-3- Swanson, Gunn, Smith

That’s 62. Bresee and Murphy are almost certainly gone to the league along with 1-2 more. And now every year we have 7-12 transfers. Let’s call it 10. We may sign 4 more this year. That’s around 52. So we need about 33 more players.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You don’t include the holder, LS or 2-3 spots

Jan 15, 2022, 11:18 PM

For earned walkon schollies in your #s. That’s 5 spots. The signing of 4 for Feb is off base in my opinion - I see that # around 6 and we have offered a few transfers here and there so wouldn’t be surprised that that is 1 or 2. Lastly, I doubt the # of transfers will be anywhere close to 10. My guess is we will be in the 21-23 range with what is available to offer next year. Only time will tell.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well, we had about 10 transfer this year. Seems to be about average

Jan 15, 2022, 11:26 PM

For the conference as well. And some of the transfers will graduate or move on too. I think you make some great points. Maybe not 33, but probably more than 21. I’d say 23-27 is conservative. Either way, I think if we sign enough to get us to 80+ before counting walk ons it’ll really be a huge benefit and a sign we’ve adjusted to the new climate.

I’m very optimistic about it and have full faith in our staff.

Nice work on the 2023 roster projections, Weslichick.

I'd put T.Simpson in the 'almost sure thing to go pro' after 2022 season ... you said 1 to 2 more so let's hope that one of the JRs will show-out big time and therefore also be a legit NFL target after next year.

But yeah ... depth and quality on defense (especially at the D-End position) could make 2023 a 'rebuild' year for us on defense.

Even with a nice boost coming for the end of the incoming 2022 HS class + a few portal players, we'll have a thin roster of ready-to-be-star players after the 2022 season.

We do need a big class for 2023 with several ready-to-go studs to keep us at a high level.

As usual, you’re spot on

Jan 15, 2022, 11:58 PM

Fortunately the 2023 class is loaded on the DL like no class before, maybe even better than the 2020 class. Should find some difference makers right away. We are still in the catbird seat and I think the best is yet to come.

Re: As usual, you’re spot on

Jan 16, 2022, 8:29 AM

Yeah that’s my big concern for 23 is DL.
We need some guys ready to go behind Bressee/Murphy (who will likely go pro after this year) , Williams/Ruke/Page, etc.
Hoping we can land some combo of Overton, Burley, Woods, etc.

Will be interesting to see how some of the younger guys on roster in Patterson and DenHoff turn out.

It will not happen...

With NIL, as it continues to reshape the recruiting landscape-

Poster's don't seem to factoring in NIL. Business as usual seems to be the theme. Spoke with a Bucknut fan this week and asked about NIL and recruiting. Going great he said (Rivals has them #4). Also mentioned that they had a 5 star locked up at 1 million to sign but he flipped to another team at the last moment. Not sure we will be relevant with many top players - nothing seems to be in place.

We are literally top 5 in average ranking and have an enormous amount of talent returning. If you expect clemson to offer like bama and georgia hate to tell you it’s never going to happen. While all the fans scream oh we are doomed Dabo will continue chasing nattys the way he knows how to.

I’d put money on NCST next year and I hope the Mayo ain’t spoiled for y’all Charlotte next December. Refuse to adapt and die, kinda like blackberry. But y’all do you! Best of luck.

43-18-4….Dabo is 0-1 vs Kirby.

Last I checked, 3>2. Don’t try and claim that 1942 championship. Enjoy going 9-3 next year and playing in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl you were talking about.

To clarify my post I’m talking about monster in quality.
And yes we have had great recruiting classes, until this year, hints my post that we would have a great class again next year.

Not done for 22 yet.

Jan 15, 2022, 11:20 PM

RB, CB, S, DL, and maybe a transfer OL?

Forgot about a LB and the Turner WR. Will need a couple more transfers to make it work.
