Does this law say that it supersedes other restrictions on places you can carry?***

It still bans guns in places like businesses (who post no carry signs)

schools, churches (unless given permission) etc.
But how many mouth breathing fox news viewers are going to educate themselves on that?
They are going to see the 3 second clip and start walking around like John Wayne.
Then when a school or business kicks them out we are going to hear "YOU'RE TRAMPLING MY RIGHTS"
Luckily the actual smart people in Cola are meeting this summer to close the loopholes

You got the law incorrect, so maybe you need to learn to read

I would love to open carry my 1911 because concealing that beast is a pain

but at the same time, if something goes down I don't want the perpetrator to know I am carrying.

I guess the theory, and I buy it, is that open carry is a big deterrent against

aggression. If someone sees people are open carrying, they're less likely to start anything.
On the other hand, the mental state of people right now suggests making a firearm that accessible will get many more people locked up on brandishing firearm charges.
I think about that dude on the boat from a story here.

My biggest problem with the law is the age and the lack of training

I have my CWP. We had to pass the range test to get it.
How many 18 year olds are going to think beyond the target when they pull their 9mm out of the holster because "dude stole my girlfriend"

The training element doesn't actually bother me because I don't most people

who even get range time get enough to be "safe" in a situation in which pulling it would be warranted. You just have to hope it's like one of those CCTV cams where the dude can sneak up behind the guy robbing the store and dump a mag into him at super close range.
My main concern is the above, and sort of what you mentioned. The propensity of people carrying with very low thresholds for pulling it, upon which they're not committing a gun crime and have fun with that felony.

I didn't think this law extends to schools. Aren't guns still restricted there?

there will be a handful of idiots as there always is that tries to take it too far.
Somebody will strap their AR to their back, even though the law is specific about weapons less than 12 inches long.
Somebody will walk into walmart with their Glock on their hip and when the cops show up they'll throw a fit.
The law is sloppy

This is reminiscent of the "should require a license to operate a boat"

discussions I see elsewhere on boating groups. At first glance it would seem to make sense, then you look around at all of the people with drivers licenses who flat out cannot or should not be driving...Nor do they know or understand the rules of the road. The sheer amount of left lane drivers out there proves this.
CWP classes aren't really "training" anyone, either. You're shooting 50 rounds out to 12 yards, and demonstrating that you won't shoot your d1ck off within that allotted amount of time. But that doesn't mean someone who is prone to bad decisions won't make one outside of class, or miss wildly under pressure and kill a bunch of puppies.

Open carry in and of itself isn't a huge issue as most people aren't going to do it anyway. But allowing people to do it with ZERO required instruction or training is asinine. My dad conceal carries everywhere he's allowed to because FOX fearporn consumer, and probably has more guns than any poster here, and even he agrees that it's pretty effin' stupid to not require any sort of training or proof that you have some minimal idea of how to use the weapon on your hip.

Currently know you can’t carry at a school will stop knowing you can’t carry at a school? Same law went into effect in TN a couple years ago and that didn’t happen. I think this is your opinion of gun owners talking more than a realistic concern about reality

who tries to test how far they can get.
My issue isn't open carry.
My issue is the age and training.
Have you met an 18 year old? They are idiots

Up the age to at least 25. Provide a card to those that complete range training
Mar 8, 2024, 9:21 AM
|
|
If you use your weapon and you don't have that card (and you're in the wrong) the offense is heightened, which I think is already in there just without the card
