Is USC a better job than Miami?

Oct 27, 2015, 12:31 PM

A lot of the gamecocks are saying that their job is better than the Miami job. I just don't see it. One has history and tradition, the other does not. One has a couple NC, one has a conference championship. The only way the South Carolina job is better is that 7 wins will not get you fired.

Miami does have a wonderful history and the coots have none. However, Miami does not have a stadium and the one they play in is about an hour from campus. They do not have good facilities and have a cash crunch. I would have to put them just under the coots because of these reasons. They won't be able to attract as many good coaching prospects. However, I do believe a lot of the upper tier coaches will show interest in the coots just so they can get a better package somewhere else.

Neither is a top-tier job and who each ends up hiring will

Oct 27, 2015, 12:40 PM

... prove it.

At this point in history, they are about equal IMHO.

SCAR has become a better job, while Miami has become worse.

SCAR has fan support and the SEC affiliation, while Miami has tradition and the South Florida location.

I think both schools will have trouble getting the coach they actually want to hire. They will both settle for their 3rd or 4th choice.

This is probably the correct answer***

Uhhhh....no....it's not

Although in fairness, while Miami has a strong advantage in terms of history, tradition, recruiting, and potential, with respect to fan support, $CU would be superior (in fact, far superior) compared to Miami.

Why do Gamecocks care if USC's job is better than miami

Oct 27, 2015, 12:47 PM

They both better jobs than scar.

10 years ago without a doubt Miami was much better.

Now they are probably about equal. Neither will ever win anything great again IMO. ***

*** The again is for Miami. In Scars case they simply will just never win anything.

Expectations at Miami might be a step higher than South Carolina, but not much.

Miami has won 5 national championships! And had a couple runner ups in the last 30-35 years. In that same time usuck has 1 sec east championship and a hand full of lower level bowl wins. Lol. Just another delusional coot.

Miami is a much better job! End of story

Oct 27, 2015, 2:13 PM [ in reply to Re: Is USC a better job than Miami? ]

No stadium. Do you think fans preferred 200 year old dilapidated stadium to sunlife? Heck , you can even sell it to the recruits , come play in a nfl stadium.

No fans. Miami has never had anything but fair weather fans. You win and Sunlife will be packed.

Recruiting is hella easier in south beach than Columbia. Ken Hatfield could win 8 games there on a regular basis.

Lastly, you are a gamecock so by default you are delusional.

territory that fills most of their needs in their own backyard. The right coach would quickly turn that thing around. USC is a graveyard for coaches as history (not conjecture) shows.

I just don't think Miami is a good job at all right now.

Oct 27, 2015, 1:08 PM

They have history (kids barely care these days) and a nice recruiting area, and that's it. The their stadium situation is horrible, fan support is pathetic, expectations no longer match reality, they haven't been willing to spend money on the program, etc.

SCar isn't a great job, but I would still rate it higher than Miami right now.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

they are 2 different jobs that need a pros/cons chart to....

Oct 27, 2015, 1:15 PM

compare if you're a potential coach

on the surface miami has tradition, championships, fertile recruiting grounds, and quite frankly an "easier" route to the top of your division/conference (being a traditional power and all)

BUT

South Carolina has the support/SEC/money, a stadium, and i'd imagine better facilities overall or at least the SEC money to make good facilities, but it's a little more difficult b/c there are 3 "traditional powers" in your division that you're competing with.

if i was a coach that was interested in Miami i'd want a guarantee of at least 8-10 years with a guarantee of an on campus/close to campus stadium of about 40-50k........i think "keepin' up with the jones'" is a much bigger part of college football than it was back when miami was MIAMI.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Only if you ask a coot.

Re: Is USC a better job than Miami?

Oct 27, 2015, 2:20 PM

It just depends on what youre looking for as a coach.

Miami has a higher ceiling, but also more demands to actually turn the program around.

SC will have lower overall standards and expectations but more job security.

I'd see them somewhat equal. Both with its own advantages. Miami can become a power again if they get the right coach.
