Interesting non-sports related story on a slow day...

673 professors at the University of North Carolina signed a public letter Tuesday opposing legislation that would require university students to take courses on America's government and founding documents on the basis that would constitute an infringement on the university's "academic freedom."

Here is a link to the article:

The professors know that UNCheat does not require

classroom attendance. Why are they worried that someone at UNCheat might actually read the United States Constitution or anything else that is not left leaning crap ? They sound like Nazi's in Germany in the 30's making sure that only their world view is spoken at UNCheat.

do that in public school. Keep the "humanities "part of the curriculums open to options.

i Hated having to take the hrs and hrs of paper righting classes when i was in school. I don't care what Emily Dickerson had to say about anything.

Don't make a theoretical physicists take American History 101 . Let him choose which paper writing class he wants to take from a group of options.

Yet they didn't raise a single objection...

to students and staff being forced to make diversity, equity, and inclusion statements.

Seems incredibly hypocritical.

It's also interesting that they cite Constitutional RELIEF when they apparently don't want to teach THE CONSTITUTION.

I mean, are they forced to take a class on these topics you

suggest? In K-12 I see making some standard curriculum for our kids, but colleges mandating classes seems a little off, no matter the subject. And no Im not talking about mandated classes for specific degrees, just across the board for all enrolled students.

Academic Freedom, to many college profs, means...

..."I have tenure. I can teach whatever I want to and there is nothing you can do about it."

Disclaimer - I taught at a community college for 30+ years. I knew too many people with that idea.

One of the many universities in this country that need to be cleansed of Communists and Leftist Radicals from their staffs and administration.

It would be nice to ship commie professors to actual communist countries so they could understand how great this system is.

somehow think so many people with different opinion are actual communists. I think they'd learn just as much about communism as the professors sent there…dare I say they'd learn what true communism actually is.

They should just declare themselves scholarship athletes and enjoy all of the benefits!

Why is it that legal immigrants are thoroughly tested on the US constitution but American Teenagers and College students are not?

Seems a bit wonky

Is anybody surprised? I'm certainly not. Communists have more or less taken over public education.

I signed a petition once, telling my boss that I just wanted to do whatever I felt like doing when I was at work. Shortly thereafter I was rewarded with doing whatever I felt like doing, completely unencumbered by any work restrictions. It was really great…..until I started getting hungry.

Perhaps the geniuses at UNC-Chapel Hill should explore employment at a private institution.
