Notebook: Auburn and Louisville are recruiting dismissed UGA player

By Michael Carvell

Jonathan Taylor, who was dismissed from UGA last summer after being charged with aggravated assault/domestic violence, said he is being recruited by Auburn and Louisville, according to 247sports.com’s Keith Niebuhr.

There’s a UGA connection, as both Auburn and Louisville have former Bulldog assistants on staff that have worked previously with Taylor – Auburn defensive line coach Rodney Garner and Louisville defensive coordinator Todd Grantham.

The 6-foot-5, 320-pound defensive lineman is currently enrolled at Mississippi’s Co-Lin junior college.

“It would be pretty cool if I get an offer,” Taylor told 247sports. “Especially since I’m in junior college, it would mean a lot. I know I’m a good guy, and I hope I get a second chance to come and play again. I just feel like everybody has the wrong impression of me right now. I’m not a bad guy. I just have to live with my mistake and own up to it.”

Taylor said he and Rodney Garner “are cool.” Taylor said he does not have an Auburn offer, but he feels good about his chances.

“I pretty much stay cool with all the coaches I’ve known,” Taylor said. “Me and Coach Garner talk probably like once every week, just catching up.”

Taylor, who signed with UGA in 2012 out of Jenkins County High School, said Grantham told him he had a scholarship waiting on him at Louisville.

*Update: It will be interesting to see how everything unfolds between Auburn and Taylor – or if Taylor will continue to talk regularly with Rodney Garner — because after Taylor made his comments, Auburn coach Gus Malzhan told reporters this week that he has a zero-tolerance policy for prospects with a documented history of domestic violence. “There’s no doubt,” said Malzahn, per the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer. “You don’t go there.”

Meanwhile, it looks like Taylor’s Louisville offer is legit …
