I don't think our BOD, AD, coach, or fan base believes it

can be done at Clemson. That pretty much guarantees it will never be done. Anytime it's brought up, you will immediately get a list of reasons why it can't be done and why it's just so hard at Clemson.

A belief without a plan or commitment is called a dream

CU simply isn't interested. Seriously, there is no interest from the BoT orher than running a cleanish program, graduating players and occasionally enjoying flash-in-the-pan seasons.
If you think any differently, you're very naive.

This August will be 56 years since my freshman

year at Clemson, and I've said the same all these years: it's about commitment.
True, we have spent some money on the program, but I never have believed the full mental, emotional and physical support have been what they need to be.
The fact is we don't have a tradition of excellence in the sport, because we have usually sacrificed that to the North Carolina schools. Secondly, I'm not sure we believe we can excel in something other than football. Thirdly, right now, few would be willing to cede any success in football to another sport. Fourthly, we have held onto a coach longer than we should have.
A head coach of a major sport at a school like Clemson runs a multi-million dollar business with responsibility for improvements and success. Any large public corporation would have changed its leadership long ago, given a similiar level of mediocrity. Period.
Any movement will have to begin with our BOT setting a standard for success, then passing it on down through the ranks along with a comprehensive plan to engage ALL the Clemson family, especially our student body, Such a plan has never been developed and only will upon demand from the entire family.
Lastly, I know JK and a lot of my great friends on TigerNet are dedicated, loyal fans of our program and our coach. I appreciate that and understand it. However, I believe we have a clear choice: continue in mediocrity or energize the entire program from the top down...the latter requiring the BOT's direct involvement.

hartins very rarely gets involved in a discussion such as this. So, when he does, it's intuitive and I appreciate the perspective. I totally agree this perspective represents the mass of Clemson fans.
You have the fringes that wish to point to one "reason" be it facilities, history whatever on why we can't have success. That fits neatly in a box, but it isn't. It must start from the top.
Baylor is 100% a case in study. Coach Drew hired in 2003. Took 5 years to get to the dance, but steadily climbed the mountain improvements each year. They had less history than Clemson, with the exception of a final 4 in 1948.
But a ton of similarities, usually conceded conference and success to Kansas, Oklahoma. And as a university, had a ton of warranted negative publicity. So you have to ask, as hartins stated, what's the difference.
Idk. But I do know that both their men's and women's bball have been on a extremely similar trajectory. Perhaps worth taking a look.

On the flip side, if Gonzaga can win 31 straight and then completely fall apart, could that possibly just be the way things go sometimes in a sport like basketball?

One reason, Simms is probably the only player on our team

that would even crack the two deep on Gonzaga or Baylor.
And, the higher level of coaching was EASILY apparent in the FEROCIOUS offense and defense that was being played. If you let those two teams play 10 times, it would probably be a pretty even split. Whichever team was hitting their threes (Baylor was obviously far superior in that regard last night) would probably take it.

Agree. Coach Drew was handed zero in 2003. First year in tourney was 2008. But he's built on every success since then. Primarily through recruiting and development of the kids. Not really a magic formula.
