Well, my Weather Channel radar shows Ian into the Atlantic

now, recharging for the assault on Charleston. It won't be anything like what hit Florida, but it is still going to pick up a lot of water and make more rain, with 60-70ish mph winds. Enough to do damage, stay safe, everybody. Oh, and, GO TINY BULLDOGS!

:)

Im so glad that they cant have a car that first year. Those parking lots around that area are gonna flood bad. It even floods around there just during a normal high tide on a sunny day. He'll be fine in the barracks....those places are fortresses.

early 80's. Got caught in just a normal afternoon cloudburst in that area one day, and suddenly water was halfway up the side of my car doors! It didn't take longer than a half hour to do this. You are right, torrential rains, whether it be a tropical storm, or back to hurricane strength, are gonna cause problems around there.

Charleston tends flood during typical rainfall...

The torrential rainfall that is associated with a tropical storm (or re-energized Hurricane, as the case may be), will cause some major problems.

If you know anything about the "Holy City" you know that from the old Provost to the current coast line was filled in over the years by dumping Charleston's junk and trash into the marsh that existed at that time. Everything from then to now was created artificially by man. So as this junk and trash deteriorates over the years, Charleston is slowly sinking below sea level.

houses in the historic district that is on some of that "reclaimed" land. He wanted to add on to the back of it. He did, after paying almost $20,000 to have a crane lift the equipment over his house (too close to other homes on either side to get access any other way) and drive piles 80 feet deep to anchor the new section on. This was required by the Charleston building codes for that section of town.

I was a cadet when Hugo hit. They evacuated us but when I returned it seemed the campus made it through pretty well. There was plenty to clean up, but no real damage. I dint recall any smaller storms hitting while I was a cadet. but we would have found ways to make some fun out of it.
