What nepotism?……….

If people would do little research before running off at the mouth, some of the angst on this site could be avoided.
Take the much discussed nepotism charge against Dabo concerning his son Will. As a freshman, Will was a walk-on and had planned to redshirt. The team needed a placekick holder and Will volunteered in an effort th help the team.
At season’s end, a scholarship came open. It was suggested that Will be given said scholarship but DABO ADAMANTLY REFUSED. The entire team to a man and all assistant coaches were adamant that Will be given a scholarship as they unanimously agreed he had earned it. Dabo relented. Dabo was not guilty of nepotism.
Just Google “how Will Swinney got his scholarship”. There are numerous sites you can read.

Thank you for sharing this. Unfortunately, facts won't fit the Debbie Downer narrative that one of the main reasons we've struggled this year is because we've given scholarships to people who sucked.
I well remember people losing their minds that we would "waste a scholarship" on Nolan Turner. "Dabo does too many favors..." blah, blah, blah. Many people piled on at the time. And while Nolan isn't a world beater, most teams in the nation would love to have him -- even top tier teams. I think that one turned out pretty well, all things considered.
I swear, if Dabo hasn't earned the benefit of the doubt (many benefits of the doubt, by now), then nobody can earn the benefit of the doubt.
We've had a hard year. It happens. None of us wanted it to happen. We'll see what adjustments happen in the off-season. I guess it's too much to ask people to keep some perspective.

Even if it is, So what! A price this or any university(outside of Alabama) is willing to pay this Coach 9.5 mil and his sons and assistance sons get football scholly's to ride the pine or even play a good bit! I take that contract with this Coach over any other coach in football!

Good point. I'd imagine if you could go back to when Dabo was hired as the Clemson head coach and tell Clemson fans that by 2021 Dabo would've won 2 national championships, 7 ACC championships, 9 division tiles, 10+ games in 10 straight seasons, and 8 seasons finishing in the top 10, BUT in return he'll want to use a scholarship on his sons when they come to Clemson that exactly zero fans would have turned it down.
Also, we've had how many players leave through the transfer portal lately? The players leaving through the portal have come at multiple different positions. Let's say that Will Swinney wasn't on scholarship and we used that one to get another receiver. What makes anyone think that receiver or one of the ones we currently have wouldn't have transferred before the season started due to their position on the depth chart which would've left us in the same spot anyway? The same is true for any other position. If we already have guys leaving due to not getting enough playing time then it's likely we'd only have a few more leave if we were to add to our numbers.

I haven't really seen too much criticism regarding his son being on scholarship. I think the nepotism debate/criticism comes as a COMBINATION of: Son(s), coaches sons, sons of friends, Clemson legend/former players sons, high number of former players on staff, etc....
We all love a good Hunter Renfrow story, but those are few and far between. ONE walk-on schollie given will get lost amongst the 85. I believe most of the "complaining" is the increase in the number of "5 heart" walk-ons. A lot of the reason you're seeing this now is the build up of lack of use of the portal the last 3 years (one way out, no way in type of thing). I point to this all the time, but go read one of David Hood's FB posts probably about a month ago now and it paints the picture perfectly of what we're seeing now.................all related to walk-on offers, Daniel HS players, etc....
PERSONALLY, if I was a coach making 10million/year my son, regardless of how good he is, would NOT be on scholarship, might as well save them...........that goes for any of the coaches making 6-figure plus salaries.
FORTUNATELY, all of this falls under the "roster management" part of the job, which IMO Dabo hasn't done the best job of since the portal has become a thing. Dabo's comments this week about Clemson will HAVE to use the portal gives me hope that we'll at least be level the playing field by accepting transfers............as everyone else in the country has been.
