Yeah Ima gonna temper things a bit kids.
Enjoy it folks, won’t last long (if we get the success most are expecting) unless Dabo plans on handing the keys over after a trial run.

if Riley leaves after a year or two years, I guess who’s sitting there, soaking up parts of that off that’s being an analyst and recruiting and waiting.

Was thinking the same thing. If Scott wants to stay in the assistant ranks a bit longer, it would be ideal.

you want the OC gone and you get the top guy in the country and you complain about how he'll be too good for the position and will leave....well if thats the case just stick with the dang guy that won't leave for 20 years then.. i think half the people on here are on mood altering drugs.

I think there's a fine line between "he could perform well and have opportunities to leave for a HC gig" and "he's already actively interviewing for HC jobs before taking this one". One thing that Dabo has always done well at clem and has valued is staff continuity. I've heard him credit that many times as a reason for success. 3rd OC in 3 years. And will probably have to hire another within 2 years.
All that said, on paper it's a home run. We'll see if it works out. I'm more impressed with the process than I am the name though. Big props for how it was handled.

1 this is a message board. That’s what you do here.
2. No one is worried. People are simply stating the obvious. Anyone that says that thought hasn’t already crossed their mind is lying. Anyone even remotely self-aware would have thought that within moments of going wow great hire!
3. Adding Jeff Scott back to the staff at the same time makes it practically a forgone conclusion.

Is it a foregone conclusion? If Jeff was a good fit as a play caller why was TE given that role? I believe CJS is a great coach and recruiter but not sure he is a fit for calling plays.

being brought in to establish a new style of offense here, and perfect it. Dabo had to know that if Morris had success, he would be moving on. But, his offense stayed, albeit with various tweaks as time went on.
I fully expect that Riley will also move on after a couple or three years, Don't forget, he is a very young coach, even though he has had several stops along the way already. He will most likely hang around for at least a couple of years, and absorb all he can from Dabo that he thinks will help him in HIS future as a Head Coach.
That is one area that Riley would do well to learn from the mistakes of Chad Morris. The Chad tried to grab the brass ring too early, before he was really ready for it. He could have used a couple more years of seasoning at SMU before trying to make the jump to the Big Time. Butt, hindsight is always 20/20.

Even if he just stays a year, the idea is that he will help keep us in the elite ranks and able to go get another home run hire when that time comes. If we held onto Streeter for another year there’s no telling who would want to come play and coach for us.

about it, why would he even take the job if he had plans to only stay for 12 mos? He’s not gonna get HC offers from schools that could pay him more than we pay him as a Coordinator. It’s a chance for him to learn from a top HC in the business while making a couple mil a yr. Look for the value.

While I admire your optimism I expect him to get tons of offers paying him more than 2 million a year if he comes in here and revitalizes our offense. They may not be the "right" teams, but a big pay raise will be there for the taking if he wants it.

100% agree with this!
Clemson isn't chopped liver. And, Clemson isn't a place that can't attract top-tier talent. I seem to recall Lincoln stuck around East Carolina for far longer than most expected.
And Dabo has established a program far superior to most in the country. Young Riley would be wise to stick around at least a good 3 - 5 years.
If he blows up in a good way that is.
He still has some things to learn(young coach), but I think we are headed in a good direction with this hire.

While I don't see him sticking around for 10 years like Venables did, I can totally see him stayed 3-4 waiting on the right job to open at a strong power 5 school. I'm not wishing any ill on Brent, just using him as an example but say he doesn't pan out in Oklahoma. Riley could easily see what's going down and bide his time and wait for that job, or Michigan, or LSU when Kelly gets run off. I don't think its a given he's a one and done. Possible yes but not a given.

He's not going to be there that long. Everything he's doing is clearly positioning himself to be a HC ASAP. If he wanted to be patient and wait for the right gig, he could have done that at TCU. I give it 2 years tops. He interviewed for the North Texas HC job in Dec. Make not mistake...he wants to be HC and he wants it SOON.

You're comparing a coaching at a Power 5 school to a job like North Texas? He's probably making more as OC here than that job. You can do better. Just admit you're super bummed your guys didn't land him and move on.

No, I'm not. I'm just saying he clearly wants to be a HC now, as his recent actions have noted. He's not going to sit around for 5 years and soak up knowledge from Dabo.

Also, I know you're not going to believe this, but I'll give it to you anyway. Beamer's main goal is to compete with UGA. He wants to win the SEC. He's not convinced you can beat UGA with that type of offense. That was certainly on display Monday night.
That's what is driving his philosophy of hiring an OC, and nothing else. He doesn't really care about who's winning what awards. Are they going to fit his agenda of beating UGA? Same is true of Briles. And he has struggled to have a consistent O in the SEC in 3 years. So there...FLAME AWAY!!

I’m gonna wonder if Riley has a couple years success and we make it back to the natty if there won’t be talk of Dabo handing him the keys and making him an offer he can’t refuse. We all know how he feels about the portal and NIL, it wouldn’t be too much of a crazy speculation

A day ago we thought Streeter would be here indefinitely, so don't get ahead of your skis. No one knows what the future will bring. Who would've thought BV would've stayed as long as he did. Either way I'm excited about it and it will bring the spark we need.

Come now morbid - you must recognize a gentle troll when you see one.
I’ve had to put up with so much dead horse beating the past several months. And now this unconfined euphoria.
I felt it only right to throw a little downer on things.

If he can get up to where Venables was salary wise it would have to be the perfect job to leave that kind of money.

I don't think he bolts after 1 season unless we kill it in offense and he gets a big HC offer. I don't think it's very likely he leaves for another OC position.
