High school recruiting for skill players is important because they could be used in different positions and jobs with their speed, athleticism, etc.
O-line is extremely crucial and it needs proven production. Clemson needs to bring in some lineman that they are doing well elsewhere at the college level. I am plain sick and tired of these homegrown kids getting a pass because Clemson is their dream, and then play as soft as a cupcake when they get here. The O-line has been absolutely detrimental to any hope this year. Matt Luke is undoubtedly a good O-line coach and knows how to develop. These players just are not what they need to be. And no this is not a personal direct shot at Carter Jones. It really has nothing at all to do with him, the timing of this post just may make some people think it is. He seems decent, and from out of this area anyways.
And I was going to give the D-line high school recruiting a pass, but as far as I’m concerned, guys on our D-line have not met what they were supposed to be.but we saw early this year that Heldt was standing out. Overshadowing our “first-round” D-lineman. Their consistency is so off.
QB is also of course an exception like skills position groups. Recruiting QBs can definitely be a good things. But in Clemson’s situation, I say a portal QB is needed more. At least a transfer QB who’s a senior, until maybe Kharim Hughley could get here.
