Ive always heard Spurrier was at the game interviewing with TDP when Tommy beats #3 FSU at home in 2003 (right? Or was it 04?)
And Tommy saved his job that day. All things work out in the end. Glad Dabo landed the job when he did!!!

^^^^Just to clarify that win. Tommy's mom made Bobby let Tommy win that game so Tommy could keep his job and get an extended contract worth millions. Nobody will ever convince me that Tommy could have actually beaten FSU without help from daddy.

I cannot confirm that story, but it also wouldn't surprise me. Except for the fact that Bowden was right in the mix for the national championship that year so losing on purpose would be kind of surprising.

I can tell you I heard right from Terry Don's mouth that Petrino wanted the Clemson job bad when Bowden was let go. TDP did not want to deal with all the drama Petrino would have brought. He then hired Dabo. Wow!

The most cringe worthy element from that time was the number of tigernet experts who vilified TDP for seeing more potential in our wide receivers coach than the young rising star, anger management class dropout coordinator from Austin ...or a dozen or so other better qualified candidates.

Many on campus wanted him, including myself, and were mad Dabo got the nod. I'm glad TDP was a smarter man than we were at the time.

I felt like we were selling ourselves and all the achievements that Bowden did do while here way short. I was wrong. Dabo has been a standup coach and overall great person.
