It's not necessarily a downside

Considering the conference's history, it just means that we have basically replaced our associates with North Carolina, Duke, and Virginia with those of Notre Dame, Boston College, and Syracuse in our 'conference.'
Three fellow founding members, two appealing opponents (VT and Miami), and Pittsburgh have pretty much become non-conference opponents to us.
Just pointing that out. Not saying it's good or bad.

Relax. This just puts us one game closer to getting ND in as

a full-time member. If the ACC was smart it would add Navy for football & Georgetown for basketball and go to a 16 team league with 4 pods. This would only require ND to commit to one more game to be a full-time member. Championship game would consist of your Pod plus the pod you partner against. The partner pod could rotate every two year which means everyone would play everyone twice every six years.

4 Divisions - Play everyone in ACC home-and-away every 6 yrs
Oct 3, 2012, 5:20 PM
|
|
A 4 team ACC play-off.
North: BC, SU, Pitt, MD
Potomic: VATech, UVA, ND, Navy
Tobbaco Road: UNC, NCST, WF, Duke
South: CU, GT, FSU, Miami
Balanced Schedule:
Everyone in the division plays each other, plus everyone from one other division (rotating bi-yearly).
Flex Game:
The weekend after Thanksgiving, there is a flex game in which Division A host Division B (rotating bi-yearly).
The host schools and date are predetermined, but the opponents are determined by the results of the first 7 conference game. The first place team in Division A plays the first place team in Division B. Second vs. Second, Third vs. Third, and Fourth vs. Fourth.
The two winners of the "first place" flex games will meet the following weekend in the ACC Title game.
Example Schedule for Clemson:
GT, FSU, Miami, VATech, UVA, ND, Navy and UNC in the Flex Game.

Rotating Divisions
Oct 3, 2012, 5:24 PM
[ in reply to Relax. This just puts us one game closer to getting ND in as ] |
|
ATLANTIC DIVISION Notre Dame Navy Atlantic 1 Atlantic 2 Atlantic 3 Atlantic 4 Atlantic 5
COASTAL DIVISION Coastal 1 Coastal 2 Coastal 3 Coastal 4 Coastal 5 Coastal 6 Coastal 7 Coastal 8 Coastal 9
Teams in the Atlantic play 6 divisional games while teams in the Coastal play 8 divisional games. The two divisional champions will be the team with the best DIVISIONAL Record.
There will be additional Conference games: Atlantic 1 plays Coastal 8 & 9 Atlantic 2 plays Coastal 6 & 7 Atlantic 3 plays Coastal 4 & 5 Atlantic 4 plays Coastal 3 Atlantic 5 plays Coastal 1 & 2
Some teams will play 9 conference games. Others will play 8 conference games. One team will play 7 conference games.
? Teams rotate though the divisions. Two teams switch divisions every other year.
There is a rotation that is designed to keep rivals playing each other every year. You are guaranteed to play the 2 teams in front of you and the 2 team behind you every year.
A = Miami B = FSU C = Clemson D = Georgia Tech E = Virginia Tech F = Virginia G = Maryland H = Pitt I = Syracuse J = BC K = Duke L = NCST M = UNC N = Wake
Here is how the Divisions would look in 2014 and 2015:
ATLANTIC DIVISION Notre Dame Navy Atlantic 1 (Team A) Atlantic 2 (Team B) Atlantic 3 (Team C) Atlantic 4 (Team D) Atlantic 5 (Team E)
COASTL DIVISION Coastal 1 (Team F) Coastal 2 (Team G) Coastal 3 (Team H) Coastal 4 (Team I) Coastal 5 (Team J) Coastal 6 (Team K) Coastal 7 (Team L) Coastal 8 (Team M) Coastal 9 (Team N) ? Here is how the Divisions would look in 2016 and 2017:
ATLANTIC DIVISION Notre Dame Navy Atlantic 1 (Team B) Atlantic 2 (Team C) Atlantic 3 (Team D) Atlantic 4 (Team E) Atlantic 5 (Team F)
COASTAL DIVISION Coastal 1 (Team G) Coastal 2 (Team H) Coastal 3 (Team I) Coastal 4 (Team J) Coastal 5 (Team K) Coastal 6 (Team L) Coastal 7 (Team M) Coastal 8 (Team N) Coastal 9 (Team A)
Divisions would change for 2018 and 2019 (and beyond) with the pattern shown above.
Notre Dame and Navy share in ALL revenue from championship game and bowls. They receive no money from ACC television contracts. They maintain TV rights to all games played in their stadium. Navy is football only.

I do not think they will go back to the 9-game schedule.

I think ND will come in as a full member and take Duke's place (Duke will still play basketball and Olympic sports, but will not play football. This will help our TV contract because we add ND (who is very desirable) but eleminate Duke, who is the least desirable football team we have.

We'll play ND every 3 years and everyone not named Ga Tech from the Coastal every 6 years. Crazy to think we'll play Notre Dame twice as much as schools we used to play ever year.

Remember that swoffie hasn't had time to determine how to screw CLEMSON with the new schedules. Just give him time. Too bad Notre Dame will have to play at Noon every time they play us. I'm surprised that ND didn't have something in their contract about that. Call it the "CLEMSON CLAUSE".
