What does Coach Brownell's recruiting class look like?

Feb 24, 2022, 10:39 AM

I see that we have three 3-star players coming in that puts us at #10 in the ACC in recruiting. Are they under rated?

Will we be significantly better next year?

Yeah, they are good top 150-200 recruits. RJ Godfrey 6-7 and Chauncey Wiggins 6-9 are skilled athletes that can play inside or out. Godfrey is ready to play now at 230 lbs. Wiggins needs to get a lot stronger. Maybe 200 lbs now. The underrated one might be Chayncey Wiggins a 6-6 combo guard. Very athletic and can really shoot the ball.

Still need another good wing like Collins. Hope they can find a really good one in the transfer portal.

I mean the 6-6 guard is Chauncey Gibson. Both he and Wiggins have the same first name.

We only lose David Collins and Naz Bohannon?

We have Beadle redshirting. In looking at the roster, it doesn't look like any transfers coming up.

Yeah but no one said last season with Trapp, O-Max, and Kidd transfering. With the transfer portal, all bets are off.

You seem excited at the prospect of transfers. Just another indication you are a bad fan or perhaps not a fan at all.

That may change after Brownell is fired

I don't think the Athletic Administration has any confidence in the potential of our basketball program.

The administration has made it abundantly clear..

Brownell era. He's a good dude and does everything right, except win enough. Hopefully the next dude will have similar traits but win more games. Bottom line tho is Brad won't survive a losing season in year 12. He was fully expected to make the NCAA tournament this year.

I sure hope you're right***

PJ will be “recruited” hard with substantial NIL $$$ from big name programs.***

Good point. That will be an interesting dynamic.

Feb 24, 2022, 11:10 AM

Does he stay with Coach Brownell or do we need some new coaching blood and optimism to keep him?

Personally, regardless who the coach is, I think he will stay because he loves Clemson and so close to home. The exception would be if he goes pro, but still think he needs another year to clear up that foot problem also.

Is he tall and athletic enough and does he pass and shoot well enough to be a good pro at this point?

I think he's a four year guy.

A lot can happen between this year and next year. But if everybody comes back that's expected to, we should be pretty good!

My expected starting lineup is

PG: Dawes
SG: Hunter
SF: either a transfer or one of the freshman
PF: Sheflin
C: Hall

If Dawes can be consistent, and hunter and sheflin progress, that's a pretty solid lineup. We would have depth at the guard spot and might need to get a transfer big man.

Do we need more length at the point from the transfer portal

Feb 24, 2022, 11:43 AM [ in reply to Re: What does Coach Brownell's recruiting class look like? ]

We struggle a bit to start/create offense and with perimeter defense. Dawes and Honor just aren't the biggest guys. I know Dawes is listed at 6'2" but he's not a very big dude.

Size isn't really an issue for Dawes at PG. we have an big issue when honor is PG and Dawes is SG.

I think there are some decent pieces for next year, if we can keep the majority of them on board.

That hopefully gives the new coach a chance to make an immediate impact that can generate some excitement in the fan base and on the recruiting trail.

I forget his name but that guard we have coming in is the real deal. I have watched a bunch of his film. He is one we are lucky to get. He will develop into a very good one for us.

Re: What does Coach Brownell's recruiting class look like?

Feb 24, 2022, 11:48 AM

Chauncey Gibson is the guard. Yeah, real good athlete that can really shoot and play point guard. Like the fact he is 6-6 at a guard. Can't beat his size. Averages about 17 pts, 4 assists, and 5 rebounds a game. He plays for an excellent program in Dallas Kimball. His team mate Morris is a 5 star guard who signed with Texas. Their stats are very comparable.
