...get him to stop staring down his receiver the entire route?
This seems like such a coachable change, and it really seems to allow the defense to concentrate on just that one player.

His brain can only handle one task at a time, and he is a statue between tasks. You can’t coach that.

This is most likely why post routes are never available because he can’t look off a safety.

Coaching has already helped him somewhat in the 'stop staring the WRs down' department, but more coaching is still (obviously) needed.

to do better disguising where he's going, but he has done slightly better and I've even seen him find a secondary receiver once or twice. Still needs to do much better though. First and foremost he needs to relax and play more like the worry-free QB we saw throw it all around the yard and complete 67% last year.

what is considered to be an open receiver in the collegiate game. He continues to look for receivers that are high school open.

The reason our offense improves from absolutely horrible to unacceptably bad when Shipley is playing is because DJ has learned to dump the ball off to him when the only receiver he seems capable of staring down is covered. Of course he still only does this a few times a game but when Shipley isn't in there its an automatic sack or pass ten yards out of bounds if that first guy is covered.

There seemed to be a lot of double clutching today as well. Like there is a lot of indecision or the guy he wants to throw to isn’t open so he as to pull it down and hope he comes open.

Like the EJ Williams screen pass when he double clutched it and then threw it after it was obvious EJ was covered…. And then EJ fumbled. Go figure.

Luckily they fumbled it to us next play.

Kyle Parker did it back in the day, so it should work in theory lol
