How is Spiller not killing it in recruiting…you would think he

Feb 2, 2022, 1:18 PM

Could get whoever

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There will be a learning curve

Feb 2, 2022, 1:19 PM

To recruit Clemson. It’s a little different sell than most

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

With 3 stud RBs already here, whoever comes in will not

Feb 2, 2022, 1:21 PM

get much PT for at least a year or two. Stud recruits want to play right away.

He’s definitely not playing right away at UGA

Feb 2, 2022, 1:36 PM

So we have to stop that excuse and look at the way we recruit these guys vs other schools.

It's the 4 or 5 star recruit in the class of 2023 that matters now.

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That excuse is getting old, UGA signed the #1 RB

Feb 2, 2022, 4:09 PM [ in reply to With 3 stud RBs already here, whoever comes in will not ]

in the nation too in this same class. We got ONE 117th rated back in a position of need.

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

A position of need?

Feb 2, 2022, 4:12 PM

We have 3 studs with 3 years of eligibility left if they want it.

Dude Ship is gone in two years and you know it.

Yes, RB was an area of need that's why the coaching staff was looking to sign two this year (one as a possible grayshirt).

There's something in these hills.

It's no longer about being a great recruiter...

Feb 2, 2022, 4:04 PM

It's now more about who comes to the table with the best offer.

He sends then all a handwritten note

Deer Recroot,

Coach say you gud player. Me think you gud two. Me want you Klimson. Check one—yes, no, maybe.

Love,
CJ

Also, it's "pleh", not "player"

Also, these recruits probably have never heard of him. It's been a long time since he was good in the NFL. They were little kids when he was a big deal.

Never made a dent in the league.***

where good Clemson players went for their careers to die.

He was the 9th pick, so he was kind of big deal. He also made the Pro Bowl in 2012. There was some hype around him and then he got injured of course. Either way, it's more than likely these recruits didn't know him.

CJ was never a big deal in the NFL. He was a big deal at Clemson and a pretty big deal on the ACC, but that’s about it.

Re: He sends then all a handwritten note

Feb 2, 2022, 4:24 PM

Like I said, he made the Pro Bowl once and ran for over 1200 yards and over 1700 total yards that year. If someone was old enough back then and followed the NFL, they would know him. These recruits wouldn't though.

Pretty big deal in the ACC? Huge deal in the ACC.

Feb 2, 2022, 4:08 PM

Why would you think that?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

To the OP…

Feb 3, 2022, 1:36 PM

You do know that recruiting starts earlier than the year of signing. Give the Clemson ICON a chance to make inroads and build relationships.

Build it and they will come. Let’s not eat our own.

Re: To the OP…

Feb 3, 2022, 4:50 PM

What does the fact that he is a Clemson ICON really mean to recruits that have never heard of him, because they were too young when he played?

Georgia is our nemesis at getting RB’s and always has been even back to the Walker days. They seem to have a more or did have more of a pro style offense where they ran to set up the pass. Good scheme when trying to make it in the pros which is obvious in comparing our 2 programs and what we have sent in at the RB position.
