Here's what you need to know about our Offense: Rant.

Dec 31, 2022, 12:30 AM

This is rant on tonight, but also a rant over the last 2-3 years.

Tenn played 2 high safety all night and kept everything in front of them. We moved the ball, b/c, well, they kind of let us. We've actually done this a lot to other teams over the past (ie. Bama in 2018, UNC this year).

Then when in the red-zone, our weaknesses becomes highlighted.

Do you NOT think Tenn couldn't see our WR's can't get seperation because 1) talent and 2) play calling or 3) propensity to put in 2 stars from Daniel High School.

Looking back, how could you not see the Tenn "Bend but don't break" defense. They knew we couldn't get seperation once we got into a smaller field. They knew our propensity to pass to the outside all the time and that the way to beat a 2 high looks is to separate the safeties. We never once threw a pass in the middle of the field to intentionally do just that. They knew this.

Their defense knew exactly what to do and knew, we wouldn't do anything different than we have the last 3 years.

The O Line inability to pick up blitzes didn't help.

Dec 31, 2022, 12:33 AM

Too many plays that take a long time to develop. Klubnik didn't have that kind of time all night.

Some times they did have a clean pocket but Cade bailed. Freshman mistakes that I hope he learns.

As to cc posts. Those points are the points I'd like to hear discussed... not just fire coach x or y.

To your point @Clemgalalways

Dec 31, 2022, 1:03 AM

I have a serious question...

If Daniel HS WR room is always getting time on the field (when in critical situations) is this a testament to:

1) Bad talent Evaluation/Recruiting

or...

2) Bad development by Coaches

or...

3) Bad personnel decisions by coaches

B/c the 3 can't all be untrue. You can't say Drew Swinney should be on the field with the game on the line in the 4th quarter unless we don't have talent, we didn't prepare the WR's or we called the personnel for the end of the game.

Probably Dabo just letting his son get in one last time when the game was over.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Game was not over

Dec 31, 2022, 1:24 AM

it was a 3rd down play, trying to get a first down.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Your points 1-3 really are kind of funny.

Dec 31, 2022, 2:05 AM [ in reply to To your point @Clemgalalways ]

We finished 4th, 14th, and probably 12th this year. 2nd best 3 year average, ever.

We lost 8 games in 3 years, 3rd least over that span in the modern history of the program.

We had 31 wins in 3 years. 2nd most, ever.

Yet we must have bad talent/evaluation, poor development, and/or poor personnel decisions?

How long have you been watching Clemson football? 2015?

Re: Your points 1-3 really are kind of funny.

Dec 31, 2022, 2:32 PM

I'm talking about WR's. Only WR's.

If you can acknowledge our talent & development in the WR room has fallen the last 2 years vs the years prior, then I can't help you.

And to answer your question, 1995. So I know bad football when I see it. And right now we don't have Elite WR's.

Hey @AllOrange247365, Were you drunk when you wrote this.....or just making stuff up? How is the last 3 years the 2nd best 3 year period of our history? The (6) 3 year periods before were all better?

each 3 year (grouped) Rankings since 2014:
2014, 2015, 2016 (17th, 2nd, 1st)
2015, 2016, 2017 (2nd, 1st, 4th)
2016, 2017, 2018 (1st, 4th, 1st)
2017, 2018, 2019 (4th, 1st, 2nd)
2018, 2019, 2020 (1st, 2nd, 2nd)
2019, 2020, 2021 (2nd, 2nd, 14th)
2020, 2021, 2022 (2nd, 14th, est 12-14th)

The Wins vs losses makes nor more sense either. The last 3 years doesn't compare to the years b/n 2014 - 2021 seasons either.

Record since 2014 (prior 3 year combined record).

2012 - 11-2
2013 - 11-2
2014 - 9-3 (31-7)
2015 - 14-1 (34-6)
2016 - 14-1 (37-5)
2017 - 12-2 (40-4)
2018 - 15-0 (41-3)
2019 - 14-1 (41-3)
2020 - 10-1 (39-2)
2021 - 10-3 (34-5)
2022 - 11-3 (31-7)

Per the list above, we have the most losses since (2012 - 2014 seasons) when grouped by 3 years.

Cade always rolled out to the right

Dec 31, 2022, 1:47 AM [ in reply to Re: The O Line inability to pick up blitzes didn't help. ]

and never stepped up into the pocket.

I few QB runs for big gains would have slowed that down a lot.

Freshman QB, bound to make some mistakes.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Cade had 51 yards rushing, even after the sacks.

Dec 31, 2022, 1:51 AM

We had 375 yards passing and ran 101 plays, THE MOST IN CLEMSON HISTORY.

WRs didn't get separation? What?

Congratulations. You can celebrate that if it makes you feel better.

The O-line can't block 3 guys even when they don't blitz

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I gave u a TU for a solid FB post

Dec 31, 2022, 1:14 AM

Even if I don’t agree. UT didn’t plan on letting us into the red zone, that’s silly.

We should have scored points on all those trips. The OL was outmatched, our qb was inexperienced with the pressure. Missed FGs by a future nfl kicker was beyond weird.

We’ve needed a better OL for about 4 years now. I don’t understand why we can’t get one.

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's called Bend, don't break

Dec 31, 2022, 1:25 AM

we've done it a lot over the years. They knew as the space got smaller, the advantage went their way b/c of our lack of talent or play calling.

We make 3 of those FG's and we still lose.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It wasn't a bend but not break deal at all.

Dec 31, 2022, 1:57 AM

They didn't suddenly turn it on when we played half of our 101 plays on their end of the field.

Tennessee had the 43rd scoring defense in the country. They were not a bend but not break defense.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So, please explain

Dec 31, 2022, 2:28 PM

the 2 high look, with soft cushions. They knew we wouldn't attack the middle of the field and they kept everything in front of them. Once you get into smaller spaces, play calling/scheming to get a player open b/c more critical.

We obviously couldn't do that.

We could have gotten into the redzone 10 more times, and the results would have been the same all night.

We only scored 1 TD in all those trips into the redzone b/c we couldn't scheme to get anyone open, and we don't have the elite WR's we used to have.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

How many times were we in the redzone?

Dec 31, 2022, 2:01 AM

Seemed like we got past the 40 and fizzled out.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If I counted correctly, then 12 of our 14 possessions ended up in their end of the field.

Dec 31, 2022, 2:14 AM

10 of the 12 were in the redzone.

Re: Here's what you need to know about our Offense: Rant.

Dec 31, 2022, 8:40 AM

You sir are spot on. My wife asked hiw can we march down the field then get stopped every time. No short field offense. If you can't run the ball inside the 30 passing becomes very difficult

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think it’s bc we don’t have playmaker at WR

Dec 31, 2022, 3:54 PM

Buncha normies for receivers. No dogs. Or bullies… you gotta have at least one playmaker, YAC guy at WR. We used to have a couple at all times. No mas. I think they gotta make another splash at OC to get kids interested in Clemson offense again. Past couple of years have really stunted us in WR recruiting.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Here's what you need to know about our Offense: Rant.

Dec 31, 2022, 1:22 PM

We got separation and every time UT did the old PI trick from the SEC...grab em, arm block, hold. If called you get a penalty but no MO from the reception...our ol would not break off a double to pick up a blitz and we had no outlet receiver...Cade could have been saved by a TE in slot with a blitz read!..we need to play smarter if we can't be more physical!
