Has anyone seen this (re Venables)?

Kind of odd considering that's what all of our players are saying now that Venables is here. I wonder if players are just excited about a change.

Just to clarify, I'm extremely excited about Venables and think he will do well. It's just interesting to see the Oklahoma players saying last year they didn't know what they were supposed to be doing at times just like our guys.

Anything is probably simpler than what K. Steele....

Apr 28, 2012, 1:51 PM

was trying to put in. Lets just let Venables do his thing and see what happens

Agreed - probably an indication of just how overly complex

and paralyzing Steele's defense was for our LBs.

Meh. Not worried because of an ESPN article.***

Sounds like our players must be a little smarter than theirs. Our guys seem to follow the BV scheme pretty well after the KS defense. Time will tell.

Please..

Stoops' arrival, after eight seasons as Arizona's head coach, was cause for Sooner-fan celebrations. Last year's defense had high-profile struggles in the secondary in losses to Texas Tech, Baylor and Oklahoma State.

Yeah, it's not like Baylor and Okie State had a QB and WR tandem drafted in the 1st round. Oh wait...

I can't vouch for any TT players but I feel this is just a blogger making more out of a little.

Goes on to criticize his weakness with secondary, well his forte is linebackers, we got Harbinson for DB's.

Stirring the pot, imo.

Dum dum dum dum.

Pretty much similar wording used for Venables at Clemson. Seems like someone took a Clemson article and changed the players to OU players and coaches.

Kevin Steele = Brent Venables

Apr 28, 2012, 3:29 PM

I have thought that from the beginning. But I also liked Kevin Steele. Until last year he had awesome defenses. Pretty hard to limit teams on defense when your offense is only on the field for two minutes. We will have the same difficulties this year. Hopefully we can outscore everyone again.

how can you already not like Venables when he hasnt coached a game yet at clemson?

I don't think that's what he was saying at all

Players will say anything to appease a new Coordinator with

the power to play them or sit them. So an arriving DC will always be praised more than the one on the way out.

Both Venables and Stoops are talented DC's. We will find out this year who does a better job in 2012. Will Clemson's Defense give up more or less passing yards than 2011? more or less rushing yards? more or less TD's? more or less points in red zone? more or less takeaways and sacks?

Same criteria applies to Oklahoma. It will be clear by bowl time which DC had a better 2012. It won;t be clear who will have the best career. I'm pulling for Venables. Go Tigers!

standard boilerplate. Anytime any school changes D coaches the new scheme is always magically simpler. no matter if it is at Oky, Clemson or North briarwood tech.

Meaningless drivel. Best not to pay attention to it. no matter where you are.
