Sometimes, you just have to cry. God puts special angels on

Sep 15, 2022, 8:46 AM

this earth ever now and then. You see them, battling illnesses where any "normal" person would just be beaten down, miserable. But, they aren't. From some inner well, they draw strength to keep a positive outlook on life, and be happy in spite of the sadness. Ella Bresee was one of them. I never knew her personally, like many of us. But, never did I see a single picture, or hear a single conversation, where she was not upbeat, smiling, and uplifting those around her, when it should have been the other way around.

She reminded me so much of another of them, who joined Jesus several years ago, named Joey Feek. Cancer destroyed both their earthly bodies, but it could never impact their joyful souls at all. For those who have that inner light, Cancer does not win. Death does not win. God just calls them home after a job well done, trying to teach the rest of us how to live life to the fullest, even when it is being taken away sooner than it should be.

I am not ashamed to admit that this old man shed tears this morning when I read the news of Ella Bresee's passing. Even though I know she has won the ultimate battle, as humans, sometimes we just have to cry.

I hope the Clemson community will come up with something very special to honor the memory of this courageous young woman.

Followup: Please see the post about the "Greyout" in Death Valley to show support for the Bresee family Saturday night. I'll be there in spirit, and hope to see the entire stadium in grey for Ella.

The same feelings here about Ella passing. Situations like this brings us to the core of our humanity. I've known 2 close people in my life taken by cancer and like Ella, not a word of pity by either for themselves, just positve in their fight. They are in a better place now. God bless!

to see a cure found for either or both of them. One destroys the body, the other destroys the mind. Neither can destroy the soul. God has one more sweet angel in his heavenly choir today.

Well said 76Tiger! It's very sad. My heart goes out to Bryan and his family, as well as the team. This has touched me with great sadness and I didn't even know Ella. I'm sure it will profoundly affect the young men on the team. Hopefully we fans won't be so insensitive as to grumble if it serves as a distraction over the next few weeks. At 15, Ella was very close in age to the young men we look to for entertainment each Saturday. Her passing may inspire them to new heights. But it may also impede their progress; and that's OK. Life is bigger than football. May the peace of God flood the hearts and souls of all who have suffered loss.

Really beautiful post. As a cancer surgeon I have been blessed to witness the beautiful fighting spirit many of my patients have exhibited. Just like this amazing young lady. My heart aches for her family and my patients families who have lost loved ones. This is why I go to work. Thank you for this heartfelt post. Craig

Thanks for putting in print what I would like to have said to the family. Please make sure that it’s posted in the card to the Bresee family. Praying for them to keep holding on to the Lord during this difficult time.

Honestly, I heard the news this morning and paid my respects on a couple of threads, but then I had a big day and went at it hard.

I took 30-mins at lunchtime to read your post and David’s, and I couldn’t hold back the tears. Sat in the rental car for 10-mins or so to compose myself.

I hope the whole family know that we hurt with them, and they’re not alone.

76r, I lost both my grandfather and brother to cancer, it still hurts. There were no bigger Clemson fans than those two so I can certainly understand the empathy on this board today. Gods speed, Ella Bresee, now resting in the arms of Christ our Savior.

Very inspirational post. It brought me to tears for a beautiful young lady with tremendous courage and spiritual faith. It makes you stop and think what really is important in life. God Bless the Bresee family.
