Great win last night, but Brad needs help substituting players

A few times we had zero scorers on the floor (no Chase is not a scorer). It resulted in an 8 minute drought. Our players need to understand each teammates offensive ability. Too many times we forced the ball to one of our nonscorers resulting in missed layups.

But a win is a win, especially over the chickens.

When we started our scoring drought, our lineup was C. Hunter, Schiefflien, Hall, Girard, Wiggins. Under 7 minutes, Godfrey subbed in for Shiefflien, due to his picking up an extra foul. This is when Godfrey missed a couple of right at the rim lay ups.

Schifflien was subbed back in around 5 minutes, D. Hunter in for C. Hunter.

Under 3 Beadle came in for Wiggins, Godfrey in for Schiefflien. At this point our lineup is Hall, Girard, Beadle, D. Hunter, Godfrey. Is this the lineup you were unhappy with?

One minute after this, C. Hunter is back in for D. Hunter, and the half plays out sans a last possession defensive swap for D. Hunter with Godfrey.

I'm not claiming to be correct here, but I want to know what the better alternatives are for "scoring", in the sense that our top two scorers Hall and Girard were on the court this entire time, and we were never without 3 of our top 5 scorers on the court. What is the optimal offensive lineup?

People may hate on Beadle being in there, but Beadle is IMO someone who looks to score. It doesn't always go well, but remember in the first half of the Bama game we were struggling towards the end of that half and Beadle came in, back to back layups to keep our offense going, so I get the move.

Beadle is very athletic and does a great job of creating his own opportunities to score. The problem last night was he could not make the shots. Maybe the Batman mask affects his shooting. He and Godfrey both missed some layups last night.

I agree, Godfrey got it going a bit in the second half, it happens.

Beadle just gets so excited to get on the court he goes for these crazy acrobatic layup attempts that look cool, but are hard to convert consistently.

But ultimately, players have to make them.

We missed several shots in the first half within a few feet of the basket. Godfrey missed a few and Beadle missed one.

It’s weird that you pretend to be a fan of Brownell yet do everything in your power to diminish expectations of the position. Also weird that coaches at any other sport are held responsible for execution, but not so with basketball.

Was it brownells fault that godfrey and beadle missed wide open layups?

If you believe it was, please explain how it is his fault.

Why can’t you be happy after an 8-0 start? You’re literally throwing players under the bus to pimp the coach after an 8-0 start and a win over our rival. What is wrong with you?

Quit projecting your own insecurities. Imagine being such a snowflake, that you believe speaking reality is throwing somebody under the bus.

Saying rj godfrey and josh beadle missed open layups is not throwing them under the bus. Just like saying shipley fumbled on the goal line is not throwing him under the bus.

Did godfrey and beadle miss open layups or not? They would tell you that they should have made those layups. If you believe that it was brownells fault that they missed said layups, then please state your reasoning. If not, please quit being a drama queen over nothing.

We literally can't speak about the game without snowflakes getting butthurt. Sad.

Lastly, i am absolutely pumped about our 8-0 start. I can't wait to have a successful year and build upon it for years to come. Are you pumped about our 8-0 start? I haven't seen you say anything positive about our team on this board. What excites you most about this team?

Tyler is lashing out and projecting because he is upset that we are having a good season. Our players are perfect and could do no wrong in his mind. Anything negative that happens to our team is 100% on brownell.

He hasn't posted anything positive about this team, and sits on the basketball board trolling.

He wants this team to lose so we can get rid of brownell. It's incredibly obvious.

Ill ask you again tyler, what excited you about this team?

Lmao, you simply can't do it! You can't say anything positive about this team because you have brownell derangement syndrome

Since the carolina win:

1. You posted talking crap to cobbox
2. You recommended multiple posts crap talking JK
3. Minimized our accomplishments lst year by saying it was the worst ACC in 50 years (not true)
4. You trolled in this very thread by truing to insinuate that a missed layup is brownell's fault, and then tried to shut down all conversation by pretending to be triggered.
5. You called cobbox a dumbarse
6. Said you have brownell toilet paper. Imagine being so triggered by somebody, you buy special toilet paper to wipe your #### with. Embarrassing
7. In a paragraph crap talking brownell you said you were encouraged this season. WOW. Can you expand? Why are you so encouraged with the product brownell has out out on the floor this year?

1) I talked crap to/about cobbox only after he needlessly used his “lunatic fringe” crap again. I guess you missed his OP stating “the lunatic fringe can go to hell” despite the total absence of any complaints from anyone in that group at the time.
2) I take crap to JK because he is a troll who is deleterious to this board. Your defense of him is pure hypocrisy as I’ve know you’ve seen his posts towards our football program - which are far more divisive than basketball commentary. I guess you also support his lies about the Virginia game meant to gaslight folks about historical support for basketball. He’s a liar and a troll. Stop aligning yourself with him.
3) The ACC was the worst it has been since 1969 per Sports Reference, a source you’ve used affirmatively in the past. And you know it, so this is as a blatant lie on your part.
4) Here is the exact quote post, in full, that initiated my participation in this thread: “ It’s weird that you pretend to be a fan of Brownell yet do everything in your power to diminish expectations of the position. Also weird that coaches at any other sport are held responsible for execution, but not so with basketball.” This was a direct reply to JK. By the time I joined this thread, cobbox, JK, and you had all attacked the OP (someone with no history as a “lunatic fringe”). My post is explicitly about JK’s hypocrisy in analysis. I mentioned no aspect of the game nor any individual performance. The use of “it’s weird” was sarcastic but the post was certainly not obtuse or passive aggressive. JK is nakedly hypocritical in his critique and appraisal and that is what I was addressing. You, then CM Shack, jump in wanting to litigate details of the game that have nothing to do, specifically, with my post.
5. Cobbox is quite literally a da. If it weren’t against board rules, I’d happily direct you to his twitter account for all the proof you’d require. It extends far past the sport of basketball. We have mutual acquaintances including a mutual friend dating back to his time as a student. He's well known. I stand behind it.
6. Do you believe that I have Brad Brownell toilet paper? It was a direct reply to someone who accused me of having it and was meant, quite clearly, in jest. Perhaps you shouldn’t thread stalk solely to white knight for someone who doesn’t need your assistance. Not only did I not make a negative comment about this season, I acknowledged the success of this season (admittedly backhandedly) with my obvious joke about placing the order in hold.
7. No, I have no reason to engage with you on the topic. You’ve acted with insincerity and malice so why would I possibly suddenly attempt to have such a conversation with you? Particularly as you’ve demonstrated that you will tolerate zero criticism of Brownell in any critique of our actual performance - which I have not engaged in. I’ve been drawing attention to the fact that as new posters (to the topic) attempt to engage about basketball the usual cohort blast them.

The best part of this team is how many players we have that can carry us for a portion of the games. Players aren't going to be on every game. It's nice to see others step up. PJ, Sheff and JG3 are the stars of this team but Chase, Wiggins, Dillon, RJ and Beadle can all contribute bigtime. And the last four are sophomores!

Yes, the shots weren't falling early, but the assertation that Chase Hunter isn't a scorer is just not accurate. He's absolutely a scorer. He averaged 13.8 points per game last season and 11.8 so far this season (which is 3rd on the team behind PJ and JG3). I know he's had a bit of a slow start to the year scoring-wise, and last night in particular wasn't his best scoring night, but he did hit some very important shots at the end of the game, the late 3 in particular. He's one of the 3 best players on this team, and someone who can absolutely score and create his own shot. But he also does a lot of other things well besides scoring, and the nice thing about this team is that there's a lot of options to rely on, so one player doesn't have to feel pressured into taking all the shots. So give Chase time, his numbers will improve as the year goes on, and he'll probably have several games before the year is over in which he's leading scorer. At the very least he'll have some games where he ends up being the guy (or one of them) that goes off for Clemson points-wise on that particular day to lead the team. And I imagine Clemson will need him to be that guy in some future games, just as he was in several games last year. And in the meantime, he'll continue to be the great team player that he is regardless, so I wouldn't worry about Chase, the points will come.
