Going back to McMichaels recruitment....

Jul 20, 2019, 3:50 PM

never seemed he was completely bought in to the clemson image. i think i remember him wanting to commit and wavering before ultimately picking clemson.

him and shaq are exactly the type of high-star works-in-progress which help bridge teams through early draft enrollees, and what i had hoped would separate clemson from other elite teams

Nope. This isn’t it

McMichael was only here for a year and couldn’t start as a true freshman over 2 top 2 round NFL corners. There were maybe 1 or 2 DB’s in his class that might have been able to do that.

It never clicked mentally for Shaq but he had all the physical tools. It seems like Skalski would’ve been getting a lot of reps this year if not even starting over Shaq and he wanted to be closer to home.

Who knows what the situation was with McMichael but it was pretty clear he was going to have to scrap and claw pretty hard just to get backup snaps this year.

I wish I could have got one of those mop-up plays. The announcer yells, "There's ol' Filco coming in on the last play of the game. They snap the ball. The quarterback is going down. Sacked for the final play of the game. It looks like in the backfield ol' Filco is laying on the ground. They might have just smashed him."
It might be like getting snake-bit, but if I ever recovered I would have been bragging for the rest of my life.
By know at age 66 I'd be telling everybody how I made the greatest play in Clemson history, although I was on the opposite end of the field from the sack. Somebody has to be the decoy.

I knew two kids who tried to walk on at Clemson in the mid-70's. They admitted they had zero chance of making the squad. However, "in 30 years we can tell people we were on the football team, and leave off for how long." They said it was absolutely brutal. They were determined not to quit, yet they were thankful when they got cut after 3 or 4 days.

Clairvoyant on Monday morning...

Next time, let the staff know when you get "that feeling" that, someone is not buying into the Clemson image(even if it's baseless, as indicated in your opening thread). With a little heads up from you, the offer could have been rescinded.
