My brutally honest opinion about our next game
Dec 1, 2015, 11:06 AM
|
|
I feel like 12-0 hasn't been celebrated like it should be. I've never seen a Clemson team win more than 11 games in my life, but I'm guilty about being ho-hum about it too. I'm worried about this Saturday. We have managed to beat ourselves for the last 3 weeks and somehow still win the games. Our defense looks exhausted. We're blowing coverages and busting assignments in the running game.UNC is the best offense we've played this year & they are HOT right now, but our defense is trending downward. Offensively, Deshaun Watson is the greatest thing since sliced bread & the translation of the Bible from Hebrew to English, but he can't do it all on his own like last week. The Gamecocks played their best game of the year, but they have no real talent. If we turn it over against UNC like we did last week they'll burn us for it & we'll come home with our tails tucked between our legs. I don't know what to think about the outcome. I feel like we're a better team, but the better team doesn't always win the game. This entire season has set up to be a massive win for our program & it still will be even if we lose Saturday, but that would be more heartbreaking than anything I've experienced as a Clemson fan.
Blast away. I'll steadily watch my pulse fall now.

Like you, I have my eyes open and I see the same things you do. People just fail to believe we may have peaked way too early because that is how our schedule shaped up. UNCHeat is hot and are peaking perfectly. I am very anxious over what Saturday brings it will be devistating to come home with a crushing defeat and nothing left to play for except another Russell Athletic Bowl appearance. So, I won't blast you, I am feeling the same way.

Watson will carry us to victory our o-coordinators need to attack their defense. On defense we need Shaq to be Shaq our front four needs to generate pressure. Please Bouleware play discipline and for the name of Clemson kick the ball through the endzone. This defense misses Korrin Wiggins a ton in its nickel package

We limped into the 2011 ACC champ game and VT's only loss...

... was to the "hot" Clemson team earlier in the season.
At the point of the 2011 champ game we weren't hot anymore and VT was heavily favored.
So, don't count out this coaching staff and these players so easily.

Yeah I wondered if we could do it then and we did. This time I think we will too. DW is a difference maker and he will show that Saturday

You want to be picking when you play the final 3 games

Conference Championship, 1st Round, and Finals!
We didn't need to peak against the likes of Syr, Wake, USUK
Oklahoma had to against the final Big12 teams but may be spent now.
MichSt peaked against OhSt and PnSt, but may be spent now.
Bama, well they play in the SEC so no peaking needed.
I like our chances!
Go Tigers!!!

I am a worrier too, so I empathize with your concerns. However, I fully expect to win because this team seems to play up (or down) to the competition. I know it seems odd or antithetical to say this, but it can be difficult to get the juices flowing when playing teams that you are 90% sure you will beat if you just show up. It is human nature.
As much as the coaches preach to take it one game at a time, at some level, as a player, you do tend to relax some and not get as intense in your prep or you on field focus as you do when you know you are in for a dogfight with a very capable and dangerous team.
I don't think we have to worry about UNC not getting ALL of the player's undivided attention. They will be dialed in. And when we hit the playoffs, they will also be dialed in because the competition is for real!
Playing Wake, Syracuse and even USuC just are not the same.
Have no fear, the real Tigers will come to play.

I find this funny. I remember 1981, the ups and downs throughout the season. Yes we had turn overs the last couple of games and we have over played the gaps and allowed big plays. Opponents have found some places they can exploit. We can fix those weakness. It is not from a lack of talent or a let down. It is from trying to do too much. Trust the player next to you, it is a team. UNC cannot stop our offense, and our defense will shut them down enough. Their QB loves to run, but hates to get hit. When he gets happy feet, intercepts happen. Their defense does not have our speed. Right now everyone is disrespecting Clemson because of a couple of games. Look at the others you are holding up there. Big 12 champions beat teams who beat nobody, same for Big 10 and Ohio State. We beat Notre Dame, we beat Florida State. I was at both games and we were in control. After we beat UNC this weekend, we will have beaten 3 teams in the top 10. That is top 10 at the end of the year, not press hype. Nobody else can say that.

What do you think the difference is in those past three games?
We were number 1. We are number 1 In every poll in America. Tell me when the underdog comes to town, or you go to theirs are you only going to get half of what they got?
Everybody likes the underdog we use to be one. Now I don't like them for this reason.

UNC is hot?

Sorry, but beating VT by 3 and NCSU by 11 don't impress me that much. True, they were clicking vs Miami (59-21 at home, a team we beat 58-0 in Miami) and 66 points vs Duke (must have thought it was a basketball game) was impressive, but right now I don't think anyone in their right mind actually thinks UNC will beat Clemson.
UNC has been able to skate by with a relatively easy Atlantic Division schedule (Wake, NCSU) and a pathetic OOC schedule (SCar, Delaware, and Illinois). They haven't been tested like they will be Saturday, and I don't believe they will be able to handle the difference in talent between the teams.

Stop watching that crap. Their job is to stir up drama and controversy so they can gain ratings. That is literally their job. Literally.

I understand your concern but I think you might look at it in a different light.
UNC has played as many games as we have and are just as banged up as we are.
UNC hasn't played any top 25 teams...not one.
They looked good against NC State, they led 35-0 1st quarter but in the final 3 quarters they scored 10 to NC States 34.
The game before NC State was Va. Tech (6-5) and it took Over Time to beat them by 3 points.
UNC has done a good job this year and I'm glad to see another ACC team gets some press (tired of weak ACC narrative), but in spite of their record they really haven't played anyone.
And the more the media hypes UNC, the more money they make on the Clemson game.
Tigers 35-17

I use the Mount Everest analogy and may be silly

but it's all that comes to mind. This will be the 5th year we've seriously eyeballed the peak and the last 4 yrs have slipped which sent us back to the bottom. Our next shot at this has to wait until the next year. Well we've given it a fair shot for 4 yrs now. This year we are within a stone's throw of cresting this friggin peak! We've endured too long in this goal and this year we are TOO close. A slip now being so close will be intolerable. It is within arm's length at this very moment and they can see our 1981 flag. There is no way they aren't making the final climb this close. TOO close

killed people on a regular basis? Was he trying to save a life? If not, think of how reckless that is of not his life but others. Think about the amount of money spent on behalf of his unthinkably reckless trip and how much real benefit it could have been used for in real-life basic needs and families. You literally undercut what was clearly a non-literal parallel, or, analogy. Mighty cootish-like of you.
Literally, there is no mountain that I know of, and the chance of snow on Sat is quite remote.
