Easy solutions for the offense...

Oct 15, 2017, 6:06 PM

First and foremost the play calling is the main issue. And maybe the only issue.

-We need to throw the ball down field. Screen passes to Renfrow or McCloud with the other blocking has gotten blown up all season. If they're going to call that play, a bigger WR needs to be out there blocking. Cain, Overton, and Higgins need the be utilized more.

-Get back to utilizing the TE's. Milan Richard has shown he can make plays when given the opportunity, and we have talented TE's behind him. The TE has been a staple of our offense, it's mystifying why the coaches have went away from this.

-Feaster and Ettiene need to get a majority of playing time at RB. Both of them have the ability to take it to the house on any play. Feaster is pass blocking good now, and Ettiene will get better with more playing time. Choice and Fuller are dependable backs, but with Bryant being the leading rusher in a majority of the games we don't have the luxury to be rotating 4 backs until we get more running yards to where Bryant doesn't have to be so heavily in the running game.

- As a fierce critic of Caldwell, I will admit the oline has played good the past two games. The problem comes in the type of running plays being called. Nearly everyone of our runs by our RB's our in the A gap. We need to mix up the type of running plays like running in the B gap, running off tackle(which Ettiene scored his long TD on), sweeps, counters, and draws.

- And when the back up QB's get in the game allow them throw deep and intermediate routes, so that we know exactly how good they can play in a real game atmosphere.

If KB is out for a month or more, can our offensive coaches develop a winning alternative? It seems that there is no contingency planning for that possibility?

we have two four stars and a five star behind Bryant...

One of them should be able to step up. The same solutions to the offense would be the same no matter who is the starter

We are the National Champions.
We are 6-1 on the season.
We had a bad game, for whatever reason.
And you think we need to develop a winning alternative or some sort
of contingency plan.
Good luck selling that to the Offensive Coordinators!
Oh, and just to add this point, what do you plan to suggest to Brent and his defensive staff?
Or to the Special Teams Coach. They were just as much of the problem, or did you miss the first quarter.
Seems like we had breakdowns in all three phases of the game.

Are you the Head Coach, or the Offense Coordinator?
If not, let them handle the situation, please.

Do you ever have an original thought?

Oct 15, 2017, 7:09 PM

Or just criticize others who do?

No, but my thoughts aren't being requested by the coaching staff.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think that is implied on a message board.

Nobody here thinks they know more than the coaches (at least I hope not). But sometimes it's fun to talk about what we might've done differently, or what we wish they would do differently.

Which gets back to my recent post...

Oct 15, 2017, 7:08 PM

why do our coaches insist on running the QB so much? If we are running the QB a majority of the time, that is less time we can involve our very talented WRs and our very talented RBs. Some QB runs are fine, especially with a QB who can run well like Bryant. But not at the expense of involving the other playmakers we have.

This has the added benefit of helping our QBs stay safe and reduce their risk of injury (or further injury, in the case of an already injured player like KB on Friday).

Agree in the aspect we are depending too much on KB...

in the running game. But he still has to be utilized in some way in the running game, just not as the main option since we are loaded with talent on the oline and have two elite RB's.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Of course. He is a running weapon we should use.

Oct 15, 2017, 7:46 PM

But I think this year we have run him too much, either by design or because he usually chooses to run it himself when given an option. It seems too predictable at times, and it also got him injured (twice). He mostly makes good throws, and although he isn't quite the passer that Deshaun is, he generally makes good decisions and doesn't force the issue. I just want balance, and fear that we are underutilizing the amazing talent we have at RB and WR.

Why do the coaches insist on running the QB so much?Maybe it's because Kelly is more of a running QB.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That has gotten him hurt twice.

Oct 15, 2017, 7:46 PM

And we have multiple players who are clearly frustrated that they are not more involved in the offense.

I would argue that we need to make some modifications.
