That you’ve seen play live in Death Valley?
For me at Sanford Stadium 1. Brett Favre(so. miss) 2. Darren McFadden(Ark.) 3. Takeo Spikes(Aub.)

Kirby, the RB from UVa, though he didn't do much after college. I'm covering a lot of years, too, so it's hard to remember which I saw in person and which were on TV. And now that I think about it, I saw D. Sanders on TV in my BOQ at Ft. Belvoir.

1982. They tied us 17-17. Completely unexpected, we were coming off the National Championship and had just lost a close game at Georgia 13-7 to open the season.

Smith and Walker might have looked good warming up, but both had their heads handed to them in Death valley during their time there.

1) Julius Peppers - freaking single-handily dominated us. Actually 1st game I ever saw at CU and was quite young.
2) Megatron- another freaking beast who changed the game by himself.
3) Dirtiest football player I can remember but Nick Fairley. —> EDIT my memory let me down here. Changing it to Matt Ryan, who I think earned his Marty Ice nickname against us. Will never forget the beating he took as he won the game for BC.

Not sure if at Death Valley but know we were the only defense to do it to him in a collegiate game.

But the prior GT-Clemson game in Death Valley was his coming out party, and he tore us to shreds. That was one of the most frustrating games I've ever watched.

Ahh I wasn’t sure about Nick actually, my brain not as sharp as it once was.
I will change my number 3 Marty Ice then. I will never forget him getting absolutely destroyed but throwing a pass for a big TD or 1st down. I couldn’t believe he got up from that hit.

Mitch Tyner's punt was the Tiger highlight of the game. Carl Roach, Ed Simonini, Bubba Bean...and another D-line player who's name escapes me.
A couple other tough D-Line players were from Maryland...Randy White...Paul Vellano.

Off the top of my head, understanding I've been attending games only since 1991 so I lived through some pretty lean years, both for us and their opponents.
Julius Peppers Charlie Ward Dalvin Cook
I'd put Matt Ryan but I honestly don't remember if I personally saw him play in DV. I think I was there for his first visit, but know I wasn't for the visit where the game decided the division title.

Two stick out, then lots of 3rd place ties Jameis Megatron Matt Ryan Phillip Rivers
I didn’t get to see him, but Lawrence Taylor played for Unc in ‘80.

1. Herschel Walker - loved the way he fell when clotheslined by the Fridge 2. Calvin Johnson -hated the way he tore my heart out 3. Danny Ford -not so much for what he did in the game but loved what he did later

For me it was Devin Hester with Miami. He was the fastest player I ever saw and gave Clemson fits. We didn't have anyone that could cover him.

3. Julio Peppers (UNC) 2. Peter Warrick (FSU) 1. Calvin Johnson (Ga Tech)
I threw Warrick in there because he was unreal in college. Calvin Johnson single handedly won the game for ga Tech my freshman year.

The performance that Peppers put on against us, in what I believe was our homecoming game, was superhuman.
However, as an honorable mention Chad Pennington put on a pretty good performance against us too. It felt like there were really long stretches where he couldn't miss a throw.

Seen LIVE, the clear No. 1 for me is Deion Sanders...
Jan 18, 2018, 3:32 PM
|
|
... as someone said about Bubba Bean, Deion was most definitely a man among boys. I believe running backwards he could have outrun anybody on the field. In retrospect, what Doug Flutie did, coming in to Clemson and leading a comeback to tie the game, was very special. And I will hand it to Lawrence Taylor, who led a monster goal line stand for the Tar Heels in 1980 to help seal that win.
