Mark Richt, in his second year, went 13-1, won the SEC and Sugar. He dropped to Florida (as usual). However, is this the last time Jawja beat a ranked Alabama in Alabama? I think so but Richt also be an inranked Bama in 2007 I think. Imagine the fan-fiction leaps of disillusionment that a current Jawja fan would have to take to see Jawja win AT Bama twice in a row.But back to 2003...Being pre-playoff, he was stuck as 3rd behind Miami and OSU... but that was a team that could/would have beaten either team IF there was that opportunity.
At this point in time Richt had already won the SEC TWICE in 5 seasons. Kirby has only managed once. Mark averaged slightly better Coaches poll final rankings (5 vs Kirby's 5.25) and was actually barely ranked in his first season vs unranked Kirby's virgin performance.
All of this while I would say that the SEC was harder during Richt's run. You still had Saban (at LSU), but you had UT with a pulse, A urbanized Florida, Auburn and Campbell,
Right now the SEC lEast is earning that reputation as it is a gutter-fire even the ACC Coastal scoffs at. Vandy is now playing wimminz, Coots are.... in Cali, UT is now a McD's dumpster fire. Mizzou isn't an upgrade. Florida can't even keep their shoes on and still wins.

they say that Richt would visit frequently and tip generously. Many have closed down in recent years, as Kirby's mom, her scissors and the family cereal bowl are preventing Kirby from providing the same boost to these small businesses. Sad.

We're no longer a contender? No longer have the potential huh? There are some Clemson fans that have come on to the UGA forum I frequent and they are nice, cordial, open-minded and realistic and we have had some good conversations with them. Reading some posts on this forum, it's no surprise that none of them came from here.
You can say we are not a "contender" or a good team, or run down KS or say whatever you want. But I can say that there are other Clemson fans who don't share your opinions about us. In fact, it was a Clemson fan that pointed out on a post a little while back that we actually led Bama going into halftime last year. That's more than anybody else did against them, including the same Ohio St team that mopped the floor with his Clemson Tigers in the first round of the playoffs.
You can stone KS if it makes you sleep better at night, but his last 5 recruiting rankings
were... 3, 1, 2, 1, 4. He led this team to the NC game in his 2nd season. How many did it take before Dabo got there? And now are facilities are second to none after our bazillion $$ upgrade. Look what 5 star recruit cornerback A.J. Harris, from Alabama said in this article after touring Clemson and UGA's new weightroom and facilities last month....
"Harris saw both Clemson and UGA back-to-back earlier this month.
How did he compare the facilities between the Bulldogs and Tigers?
“I want to say Georgia has the edge now there,” Harris said. “That weight room for Georgia is the best in the nation. The new facilities. All the new up-to-date things. I haven’t really seen anything like that anywhere else. I will be looking for that. I believe that Georgia has the best training room and weight room and things like that."
I'm a realist and I know a good team and good potential when I see it. There are some teams that have it all; talent, facilities, the fanbase, the S&C program, coaches, etc. etc. And I can honestly say that Clemson, Bama and Ohio st are the elite of cfb, and they aren't going anywhere...but neither is UGA.

did you see what coaching at UGA did to Marc Richt's career? He was a super star at FSU, only to have to take a step down as the head coach in Athens. Then, when he finally does get a chance to be the head coach at a successful program, like Miami, he just was not prepared for the moment. I think this should be a lesson to other coaches, and like it says in the good book, a wise man learns from the mistakes of others.
